He's a consensus top 10 player that has said that ISU is one of the teams recruiting him hardest. Also placed them in his top 5. The catch is that there are some questions about his character. He's attended something like 5 different schools in 4 years.

That brings me to my question, would you want Fred to gamble on this kid or let him go? I personally think he's too much of a talent to pass up, but I expect some would feel differently.

I thought he was going juco? I'm OK with either direction Fred goes with him but if you put a gun to my head I'd pass. Of course, I'm not privy to all of the information but sometimes it's a duck when it looks, smells, and sounds like one.

I thought it was prep school and he'd still be eligible for the 2013 class. I could be misremembering though.

5 schools in 4 years wouldn't necessarily scare me unless there wasn't a reasonable explanation for it, or bad circumstances. Definitely have to take a look with that kind of talent, but I wouldn't take him without checking him out pretty good, which is exactly what I would expect our staff to do.

I think there was an article about it. I'll check his RL profile shortly to clarify.

I say go for him. I would not recommend signing a class full of these players our you might end up like St. John's but one player in a big class would not be devastating.

I know this sounds crazy, but is this the type of guy we want? If he's that highly thought of won't he likely be a one and done? I know that would help for that one year, but is that the best way to build a team? We are taking one and done transfers now, but I would hope that by 2013 we aren't in the position where we'd have to.

It would depend on how we stand on other prospects at his position as well. Lots of variables.

If talent wants to come you take it IMO. It's not like our whole team would be one and dones. I have a feeling Fred knows a lot about when his players are ready to leave for the draft and any intelligent player would value his advice.

According to this article he has enrolled at Chipola Junior College where he plans to get his GED and still be able to enroll at a D1 school with the 2013 class. So I guess we were both right, Cydkar.

people said royce white had character problems too

For every Royce White type redemption story there is a Tony Mitchell who continues to squander opportunities. This kid may work out just fine, but it certainly is a risk.

Big risk can result in a big reward. If it doesn't work out, we lose a scholarship. Not the end of the world. You have to take this chance.

I think if the majority of the team is thought of as having good character, and those are the players that are the team leaders, you can insert an individual with a troubled past - sometimes.

Take for example Royce - it seems like he gets a lot of help and guidance from Babb (as well as coaches and other mentors). If you were to have taken Royce from MN, and inserted him into a differen team mix, this experiment might not have worked well.

The way Fred has handled coaching the last two years I am really not scared of him recruiting anyone.. The guy knows how to deal with players and knows how to make them commit to playing his way.. and if they dont they dont play and if they mess up they are gone..
