I think when he said we had better athletes. He actually meant they had more white guys thus looking less athletic than us.

We were killing them on the boards and blocking shots left and right in the first half. I believe that is what he is referring to. It appeared, at least momentarily, that we had more pure athletic ability (running, jumping, quickness) than Duke.

If these guys make it to the season and their egos don't get in the way of playing well together, ISU could have a nice season. Babb and Allen on the wings and White playing a hybrid power forward is a nice trio.

White and Allen appear to have an issue with authority though and neither is going to want to be 2nd fiddle to anyone else on the team.

Tell me how you know, "neither is going to want to be 2nd fiddle to anyone else on the team". You have inside information?

I think that the only position on there that we have missing is PG. We should have 4 of the 5.

too bad Colvin got pissy and left before Fred could sell him on the program. that also goes for Dendy and Ham - bet they're second guessing those decisions now....

There certainly is a lot of talent coming in the next year or two. Not to rain on the parade but the previous coach had plenty of talent and we know the end result. Obviously the key to the whole thing will be how well Fred can coach and manage players. That is a big unknown at this point, but there are a lot of positives with the program right now.
Our 10-11 practices will make this team better using the red shirts. We needed some older people.

It's unfortunate that in today's NCAA, if a kid’s world is not absolutely perfect (in their mind), they run from the problem rather than deal with it. Makes you wonder if it is the first signs of our society’s change in our early education program (no longer give kids grades – everybody passes; can’t keep score, everybody has to win; if you do not like something, have mom or dad complain on your behalf).

Personally I wonder how that generation is going to survive in the real world when mom or dad or AAU coach are not there for them during their first job interview or first job evaluation. The bottom line is life is not a video game, you can’t just hit reset if you do not like your initial score.

I'll give you this "irony" for Babb and Booker as I think they are the only one of our transers that come remotely close to transferring for the reasons mentioned above. Anderson was at N Ill for 4 yrs and got a degree I beleive so wasn't jumping ship to hit a reset button. He saw an opportunity to play in a conference that players get more notice so he can hopefully get better looks from NBA teams and show he can perform against better competition. The other two (Allen & White) were kicked off their teams so didn't transfer by choice!

Is it just me or is everyone forgetting about Ejim in 2011. Don't let these transfers overshadow him. I still think he will be the best wing we have in 2011.

Awesome news!!!

Anybody else get the feeling we're on the verge of something very special happening here? Bring in a good PG for next year and keep the rest of the team together for the year...wow. And Fred has given me no reason to doubt him thus far.

So here's a question, would getting worked by your scout team everyday be demoralizing? Or would it breed quality competition? I am not saying our scout team will beat our starters this year, but those four plus a decent PG would be a heck of a lineup, to have to play day in and day out.

I think it would make them better. Playing vs DI talent everyday will make them work harder and they will know the type of player they will be facing in games. They will have to work at it at practice. Going against a top 50 play has to help you more than going against an Iowa HS walkon.

I view Jamie's statement as simply stating the culture we are in. If you have a good coach, you will be on the winning end of any cultural changes. End of story.

I think this is a really good addition. I am sure there will be a top PG from HS that wants to be part of this special team.

I think we will have special Iowa State team in 2011-2012.

What will be nice is the pressure will not be on Ejim to contribute right away and can learn from some pretty good players.

Never mind I was thinking of Cook in 2011.

I think the underlying story here is the fact that with RW and CA Coach Hoiberg and staff has managed to out-recruit John Calipari, Tim Floyd and Steve Lavin. I am sure there are many more factors in play other than just the coaching staffs, but it is a great sign none-the-less.

Agreed. RW, CB, and and CA have to be huge for recruiting.
