Re: Chizek just won Coach of the Year

Chizik does not deserve this award, I'm sorry. He caught lightning in a bottle with Newton and took advantage. Even then if this smoke proves foul, the one shining piece is gone. They've had some gutsy games, but no one is going to convince me that their team is better off with Gene...his staff, well that is another story. He literally adds nothing outside of a defensive mind (which they need to assist Roof).

On that note, I really don't wish ill towards Chizik, but the media infatuation with this man is sickening and this award should not go to him.

Sorry jamestaylor, it looks like your hawks would have went to the Rose bowl if Chizik was their coach this year.

Gene deserves it regardless of what all the whiners will say.

Eugene deserved it or the Auburn Booster's checkbook deserved it? You make the call. :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Kelly or Harbaugh deserved it more. I would say Kelly as it's his first year as the head coach but Stanford's admission standards make Harbaugh's job even more impressive.
Chizik has had an outstanding year, regardless of why(assistants, luck, illegal players, etc), so as much as I've rooted for him to lose every game he still deserves mention, I just don't think he should be the winner.
I can't believe we haven't had any Hawk fans throw Ferentz's name in the hat, aren't they going to their 100th consecutive New Year's Day bowl with him???

Any chance of GC saying he learned the importance of hiring the right OC and DC?
It would be interesting to see what he would say if asked about his selections of coordinators at ISU and the impact on his record here. Would he even slightly admit he just hired good 'ole boys at Iowa State's expense?

You can say all you want about Malzahn...and I do believe he is an offensive genius. But it was Chizik that hired him and has been able to temper his ego and pride while letting Malzahn get more positive publicity than any other assistant coach out there over the last two years.
I'll say this about Malzahn........."Cam Newton" Who knows how good he is until he does it consistently. He could be Marty Fine or Barney Cotton or Dan Hawkins or......

I think it's more like he learned the importance of a well-placed $200k...

Hey James,

Maybe a good way to not bring up this thread is to find an article from 6 years ago about a former cyclone being arrested.

does it hurt more the way he left us, or the fact that he won a national championship just two years after?
