The Des
AMES PSA:

The chicken, beef and pork taste great there, but rip my stomach up. Now that I'm vegetarian I can get every salsa, every veggie, every pepper...feel totally fine. Even the chicken that you'd think would be fine tears me up.

Problem solved.

Sorry for the quality, not sure why there's not a better one out there.

Pepperjax>Pancheros>Flying Burrito>Qdoba>Chipotle

Pepperjax decimates all! But only an true Omaha-ian would know that!

I would do it like this...

Chipotle > Moe's > Qdoba > Mr.Burrito > Panchero's > Fighting Burrito

I don't understand the love for Fighting Burrito... I just didn't think it was that good. It must have really fallen off when the new management took over (I never had it with the old people)

I think a lot of people are thinking of the FB of old. When they opened in the early part of this century when I was in school, it was a force of nature. Huge burritos, cool people, great location (for me living on Campus Ave), just super delicious as a whole. Now it's been Matt Goodman'ed into sucking.

...and about damn time.

Im not necessarily a huge fan of some of the new restaurants but at least it's a change and adds to the options.

I'm not a Chipotle hater or lover, however how does yet another restaurant of the same type really add much to Ames? I don't get the location and good grief, it's on the same exact road as Panchero's only about a mile away!

I completely agree about the Flying Burrito to Fighting Burrito downfall. I used to get FB all the time when it opened and it was awesome. Moved out of state for a couple years, came back, saw the name was changed and the food isn't close to what it was. Plus a little pricier too I believe.

I guess its gone farther down than i thought. It started going downhill while i was there (i was 03-07, so was there before goodman bought it), but i guess its gotten much worse from what everyone says.

It's not like you're going to go puke from eating it, it just seems like the ingredients never seem fresh, meat is not warm at all, etc.

You don't understand business, do you?

Fighting Burrito is absolute dog crap. Whoda thunk that food doesn't taste very good when it's burned. Meat always burned. Rice always undercooked. I'd rather eat a Jack's pizza everyday of the week.

Exactly, I used to go out of my way to get it. I was at Mickey's after the OU game last november and walked right on by like I would an old college girlfriend who had gotten fat.

Chipotle is good stuff, Fighting Burrito when it was Flying Burrito could go toe-to-toe with any of the big chains on the power if Spicy Corn Salsa alone. It has, however; been reduced to a shell of it's former 'tortilla splitting' glory. Not enough mass/meat. period.

I would agree with this. My roommates and I would always be jealous if someone got a double wrap the burrito because the first one split open do to so much food in it. That's when you knew you got your money's worth.

Is there an empty abandoned Hardees or Taco Bell building in Ames? Then these guys will be up there soon:

Didn't they tear down that abandoned Hardee's building about a decade ago and build a Panera on top of it?

Never had Flying/Fighting Burrito, just wasn't open when I graduated a decade ago.

I would rate it as Panchero's>Chipotle>Qdoba. I've very rarely had Qdoba that I've actually liked. It's either been greasy nastiness or dried out nastiness.
