anyone have a list of targets for the Cubs? I've been horribly out of baseball for the last few seasons, but seeing Maddon singing has me more excited than I expected. Pair that with a couple good free agents and we may have a fun seasoning coming up.

Reading the cheap deal on Wada was likely a deal to be able to use him as a trade chip either this offseason or early next season.

Also reading that pitchers market value is down a bit due to teams needing better bats.

Pretty much created by MLB Trade Rumors. Bolded is who I think we get.:

#1 target = Lester

#2 target = Shields IF Lester isn't signed

#3 target = C Russell Martin

#4 target = Corner OF - Markakis, Rasmus

#5 target = Relief pitching - David Robertson

#6 target = Second starting pitcher - Peavy (If cheap) Morrow

Robertson wants a lot of money, I can't see the Cubs throwing a lot of money around for bullpen help when they already have a solid pen plus lots of potential candidates to join them already in the organization.

Prediction time: I think the Cubs sign either Lester or Scherzer for huge money, somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 million a year for 6 or 7 years.

I think they sign Brett Anderson for one year 7-10 million.

I think they sign Russell Martin for 4 years with a 5th year option that can become guaranteed if he makes a certain amount of starts for somewhere around 16 million a year.

I think they sign Johnny Gomes for two years and 6 million.

I predict if the bidding for Lester and Scherzer get's too high they'll trade for Hamels instead of signing Shields

They have already met with Russell Martin, but it's early in the process. Martin is meeting with other teams as well.

Land Lester and Martin. I, personally, would like to add Shields (just don't think Scherzer is in the cards).

I made this up myself but I hope it's real.

THE 101 YEAR (GOOD) CURSE

The 100th year of Fenway, the Red Sox finished dead last in their division. That offseason, they made big improvements to the ballpark to start eliminating the out-of-date parts of Fenway. The 101st year of Fenway, the Red Sox won the World Series.

The 100th year of Wrigley, the Cubs finished dead last in their division. That offseason, they made big improvements to the ballpark to start eliminating the out-of-date parts of Fenway. The 101st year of Wrigley, the Cubs ______________________________

12 players turned down 1 year, $15.3 million QO's today. Of note, Russell Martin, James Shields and Max Scherzer (Scherzer is going to end up a Yankee...that's my bet anyway) are among them.

Cubs have apparently shown interest in Torii Hunter (one of ten teams).
