If I say top ranked team when talking about this article would you think I am talking about Kansas or Florida A&M? Isn't the top higher (or the highest)?

Hell I don't know. I honestly debated whether to put higher/lower when I wrote it. I just figured from a strictly numerical standpoint the number #56 is higher than the number #45, so as #56 we are ranked higher than #45. But I'm also open to being wrong on this one.

ISU's ranking doesn't surprise me too much, as far as perception after last season. A few teams ranked ahead of Iowa State, not sure about those. (I don't have the list in front of me at the moment so I can't specify).

Outside of ISU, Nevada seems loaded and probably wins MWC in Gonzaga-like fashion, but #3, not sure if they'll have the schedule strength to climb that high. Also of not, his list doesn't overvalue Loyola (who I've seen on earlier preseason top 25 lists), but might be ranked a bit too low on the 1-353.

56 should mean NCAA tourney so works for me. :)

Ranking anyone in any sport before they've even played never makes sense outside of hype so whatever. Let's see where things are by February.

There are 32 conferences that get autobids. By my count only 15 have a team ranked higher than ISU on this list. That means that 17 more autobids must be filled before teams can line up for an at large bid. That would put a team at 56th 5 places short of getting that 68th and final play-in game spot. And that doesn't even take into account any upsets in mid-major conference tournaments that turn 1 bid leagues into 2 bid leagues.

I think the ranking is fair for now. If the team stays out of trouble and they are healthy, we can be one of the top 30 (or higher) teams by the end of the year.

I had forgotten how poorly we did last year. I must have blocked that out. At least they were fun to watch. Really looking forward to this year.

I figured we'd be in the 40's somewhere, but can't argue too much with where we are at.

However, if Nebby is truly the 29th best team, and we beat them in the scrimmage without Lard, Talley, or Solo... then I'm pumped.

I can see #58 with all the injuries and young players to start the season. Hopefully by January we're playing at a lot higher caliber than #58 though.

Iowa State should be in the top 40.
This poll lost a lot of cred when I saw Gonzaga at #2 and Nevada at #3. The Vegas odds for these two in the final four would have to be extremely low.

Over-rated:
Zags
Nevada
Auburn
LSU
St. John's
UCF

Under-rated:
ISU
ASU
Lou
UConn
Loyola
TT
Creighton

Doing God's work right here.
Or just tell them 12 seeds and better, so the top 50 teams plus/minus get in.

Pre-season "rankings" are stupid. It's all about the name on the front of the jersey when the season isn't underway.
It seems like it, but I think I’ve read that the pre-season poll is correlated higher with end of year ranks than other early-mid season polls.
