Took my son there yesterday as we were out of town over the weekend. Holy crap that place is HUGE and my kid loved it. However, is it just me, or does that place seem like the biggest waste of money when it's only going to be opened 3 months out of the year?

Yes, it is huge and awesome. And yes, it is a huge waste of money.

I hate to give the planners too much credit, but I would assume they established a business plan, and model to account for the seasonality of that type of business. If they didn't, whatever financial institution that funded the loan most certainly did.........

If they can make money and the community uses/likes it, I think its a win.

considering how much they are charging for admission including raising the season pass cost, I don't think they will lose money.

Plus, it was built with seed money from Albaugh. For every dollar the City spends on infrastructure in Prairie Trail, Albaugh puts money in a slush find for the City to spend on other projects in Prairie Trail

Where is that at? Has anybody been to the new water park at Adventureland?

Was there last week. It's fun. The new tube slides are cool. The lazy river and the other new slides that are under construction look pretty sweet. My 5-year old had a blast.

Waterparks will never be able to make money in the midwest.

Signed,
Noahs Ark and the rest of the Wisconsin Dells waterparks

It's owned by the city. It doesn't need to be financially viable or else they would never build libraries.

I knew that Albaugh donated the land for Cascade Falls, but would assume the city was responsible for building it (I don't recall there being a bond issue vote on it).

Edit: It was 9 million.

sorry for bumping an old thread, but for those in Ankeny, if you are planning on going to Cascade Falls this weekend, i'd get there early, otherwise, you'll be walking.

I took today off from work for a father/son day with my son and the 2 of us were there shortly after 12pm and it was all I can do to find a parking spot in the lot. After 2 hours, my son was asking to go to the pool at Prairie Ridge because it was soooooooo packed, he wasn't having fun....he spent more time standing in line for the boards, slides, and to get a tube for the lazy river.

How is this any bigger of a waste of money than any of the aquatic centers in Des Moines that also have slides and lazy rivers?
