Just because I'm not "in the know" with this other program, I wonder what the reaction of kstate fans was/is about Nigel Pack going to Miami for a pay day. At the end of the day why is it different from Hunter? For me, a more proven high level scorer like Pack would be a tougher pill to swallow. At the end of day, I always felt Hunter's talent/output was a lot easier to replace.
I don't think it was that much different I think Hunter transferring within the conference and to a school every other Big 12 school despises is the true reasoning behind it all.

Yeah there's a lot of truth in that.

ISU fans can be fascinating though, some booed JCL @ KU and called him a traitor but then also cheered Enaruna @ ISU.

The days of feeling "attached" to a player like Niang are pretty slim now.
Maybe the best role model, athlete on and off the court, recently has been Gabe, and he transferred here.

The Texas thing is half of it for me. The other half is him lying to the fanbase saying he didn't transfer because of money.

All he would have had to do is go to a better program without a sleazy coach and just admit he wanted to make some money.

What if money wasn't the only reason? So what? I don't even care about him...but he doesn't need to look me in the eye and answer to me...he left...he did what he wanted. Next man in! Getting kicked off a team seems much more bothersome to me...but maybe that is just me.

Well, judging from the reactions to these posts people are pretty split. I prefer Grill, you prefer Hunter, there's no wrong answer.

Did he even tell ISU's fanbase it wasn't about money or was it just what he said during an interview to an ESPN guy?

There was a story on here last summer where Stansbury or one of those guys from this site interviewed him if I remember correctly.

True, it's the Hickory Park thing.
A Hickory Park sighting in an unrelated thread. This thread has really become a true CF thread in the last couple days. I'm waiting for the pro and anti Hickory Park discussion.

We will truly go off the rails when someone threatens to cave this thread and we get a JLH sighting.

Here's the article with Hunter's quotes from Big 12 Media Days: https://cyclonefanatic.com/2022/10/...ter-the-transfer-portal-and-leave-iowa-state/

I think Hunter probably gets criticized more than he deserves just because things played out more publicly, whereas Grill's situation is more behind closed doors (at least to this point). I also think that Hunter "trashing" Iowa State gets overplayed. In my understanding, none of that really happened publicly until last summer after Kalscheur was public about looking forward to playing Texas, which everyone here loved. We can't simultaneously support that and also be angry with Tyrese for singling out Iowa State.

If he went to Tennessee we would have all forgotten about him.

But it had to be Texas. Right after they pulled their ultimate stunt to try and ruin the Big 12.

So **** Texas and **** Hunter. Not for leaving. Not for getting paid. But for going there.

If fans on here didn't forget about Clayton Custer going to Loyola when they made a postseason run, they aren't going to forget about Tyrese no matter where he went.

It didn't help that Texas went on to have one of their best seasons ever.

Overall people need to come around to the idea that going to a school is often transactional for the athlete and has been for a really long time. It's just going to be more obvious now as we're basically seeing trades like the pros.

I don't remember any Custer hate. It was more, "Oh, hey, that guy, I kind of remember him!"

Hunter in Volunteer orange making a deep run is probably more a, "Sigh, could have been us, stupid NIL."

But all things burnt orange can and should make any Cyclone's blood boil at this point.

I don't think many fans would have remembered Custer much, if at all, if he hadn't hit an off-balance, game-winning shot against #3 seed Tennessee in 2018 to help propel a relatively uknown private Catholic school in Chicago to the Final Four.
