'The Cafe' in north Ames has good breakfast options. If you're looking for a greasy spoon, nothing beats the GROVE CAFE on old Main street.

I could be wrong, but I think Gateway does not have a brunch anymore. We got married in May and had our reception at Gateway. We had planned to inform our guests to meet us for brunch on Sunday morning, but a week or 2 before our wedding, our coordinator told us they stopped doing brunch.

The Cafe is awesome. Especially for breakfast/brunch. They have a new menu every week, and you can't go wrong with just about anything they have.

Thanks for all of the advice. Went to The Cafe and it was very good! Also, we went to Old Chicago sat. night for supper since it was at the hotel we stayed at, and we were very impressed with the food there too. really enjoyed it. My bro's graduation party went very well, too. My wife and kids and i couldn't make the graduation ceremony at hilton since she had to work, but my parents told me it was pretty neat, they were glad they went to it. thanks for all your advice again!

Glad the Cafe was good. I like going there for brunch too.

No need to give props to us about Old Chicago. It is a chain that you can find in suburbia of most major cities.....

Glad you enjoyed your time in Ames

I think Audubon's (sp?) still has a brunch or nice breakfast. I think Gateway may still do brunch on big days like Easter but I believe we actually went to the restaurant last time.

I think you're right. I'm fairly sure they only do the buffet on holidays, Easter, Mother's Day etc. I think I heard that the guy who used to run the Gateway buffet is now at Olde Main, or atleast he was.

The beer at Old Chicago (or The OC as we call it) is awesome. The food? I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Everything is just bland. Total lowest common denominator menu designed to appeal to the tamest taste buds. They have perfected a method of cooking pizza that leaves it both cold and burned at the same time. It's really quite a talent.

I go to the OC for lunch about once a month because it is so close to where I work, and every time I walk out wondering why I came back again.

The Tip Top:biggrin:! But only if you like Chili. Kidding.

I know Olde Main used to have a brunch buffet, not sure if they still do though.

I would do chili in the morning. Maybe throw an egg on top to make it breakfasty.

I agree with you there. The food there LOOKS good. But every time I eat there, I'm just disappointed by the overall blandness of it. I will say that their beers and appetizers are damn good.

For breakfast, I haven't been to the Cafe. We usually hit up HyVee for their buffett, which is surprising good. I'd take that over Perkins or Village Inn any day.

One thing I always thought Ames lacked as a student was some great diner to go eat breakfast at after a long night. We always went to perkins but that lacks something.
