Oh really... pardon my ignorance, but how do they make the final determination about which locations are tied to which regionals?
Based on pods, irrespective of the region. Des Moines could be an eastern region pod with 4 teams from that region and a South region pod. They want to make sure each pod has balance and is, in theory, set up to minimize travel, particularly for the top teams.

In 2016, Des Moines hosted one the of south region pods (featuring Kansas and Connecticut), as well as an eastern pod, featuring Kentucky and Indiana.

It's all click-bait at this point.

My favorite is when the halftime studio analysts have to throw it over to him in the "Bracket Bunker" and pretend they are completely clueless on which teams will make the tourney. Yeah, cuz professional analysts who follow college BB everyday generally don't keep track of which teams are good.

They have to act like they have no idea and Joe will set the record straight on whether Duke deserves a #1 seed or not.

Let's just win the Big XII and dare them to make us a 5 seed.

I only read about the committee's subjective observations in the link. I see no equation. And that makes sense given Lundardi has Nevada as a 4 seed and they not only do not have any Quad 1 wins, they haven't even played a Quad 1 team this season...

CBS Sports: Do you put as much philosophical stock into KenPom, KPI, BPI and the like as you do the NET, or do you knowingly put more emphasis on the NET's numbers given that they are the ones determining strength of schedule, etc. on the team sheets?

Muir: This is going to sound politically correct, but I'm looking at all of it. To say I weight one over the other, it would be really difficult. I'm trying to be consistent in how I look at it. I think all of the tools are really important just to get a snapshot of a particular team. I think observation is really critical too. I think schools would expect our group, our 10, to put great stock into, hey, what did you see? That's collectively where 10 members are really helpful to say, how did you see this, how did factor that in, here's what some of the metrics say. To say I'm just going to use these tools or a particular tool, there's so much more that goes into a particular account when you're making your selections.

KU would be RPI #1. Big 12 kind of getting screwed in that regard.

I found this really interesting and I'm curious as to why the Big 12 seems to be getting dinged the hardest when comapring NET to RPI.

Helped by the NET

  • NC State: 86 spots higher (121 in RPI, 35 in NET)
  • Nebraska: 71 spots higher (104 in RPI, 33 in NET)
  • Liberty: 73 spots higher (127 in RPI, 54 in NET)
  • Florida: 38 spots higher (80 in RPI, 42 in NET)
  • Saint Mary's: 25 spots higher (71 in RPI, 46 in NET)
  • Lipscomb: 24 spots higher (56 in RPI, 32 in NET)
  • Virginia Tech: 19 (29 in RPI, 10 in NET)
  • Baylor: 18 (49 in RPI, 31 in NET)
Hurt by the NET

  • VCU: 21 spots lower (28 in RPI, 49 in NET)
  • Kansas State: 17 spots lower (13 in RPI, 30 in NET)
  • Kansas: 16 spots lower (1 in RPI, 17 in NET)
  • TCU: 14 spots lower (23 in RPI, 37 in NET)
  • Belmont: 15 spots lower (48 in RPI, 63 in NET)
  • Oklahoma: 13 spots (25 in RPI, 38 in NET)

Bret Blum's owning Palm on twitter. It's quite hilarious.

Seriously though WTF is Palm even using to create his current bracket. I'm not just talking about where he has Iowa State either, his bracket is embarrassingly bad.

same **** a different year

I've followed him and Lunardi for years and honestly, I can't remember him putting out a bracket this bad. He's always been pretty bullish on Iowa State and the Big 12 but this is just ignorant. LOL, Iowa State is closer to a 3 than they are a 6. It's going to be fun seeing us in the top 16 tomorrow and watching all of these "experts" resetting their seeds on Monday.
