Had seats on the all-session side at the Maui Invitational last time so we walked behind the commentators going to and from our seats. Had a great conversation with Benetti and told Bill I hoped he could get to Hilton for a game. His response was "Walcott, IA home of the World's Largest Truck Stop". I will miss him calling basketball games

Such an interesting guy and loved listening to him. Wish I could have seen him play in his prime before the injuries as by all accounts he was an absolute beast.

Bummer. My first memories of college hoops were Bill Walton's great UCLA teams. They had something like a 90 game win streak broken against Notre Dame on a nationally televised game.
88, so you're right there.
Bill loved the game and knew so much. He'll definitely be missed.

Bill Walton is/was a life force. He will be missed. He was a free spirit intellectual with a strong sense of humor, very positive, even with a history of many medical challenges.

Here is and interview of Walton, where he describes 'breaking his back", then playing 11 days later, the day they lost the 88 game win streak. Not that he remembers.
