Well I too have a hard time believing it but I do know that Self isn't the happiest guy in the world down there and a lot of the fans have a love/hate relationship with him. If Kansas can't get past at least the Elite Eight this year watch for the fans to turn pretty quickly.

If we think ISU underachieved the past couple of years with Morgan, look at KU's NCAA Tourney resume and you'd see the definition of disappointment.

First of all, the Arkansas job is a great job. They are the only "big time" school in their state. Unlike many SEC schools, basketball is important to the school and the fans. They play in a nearly brand new arena that holds almost 20,000 fans (and is full almost every game). They are in a beautiful area which has a tremendously vibrant economy (due to Wal-Mart). They have the money to "pay" the right coach.

Having said that, the Kansas job is on the short list of "best basketball coaching jobs in the country" (with the likes of NC, UCLA, etc.) for a whole host of reasons. I would be shocked to see Self leave KU...if he did there must be some major personal situations at play.

I could see Gillespie leaving A&M. Football is "second fiddle" at A&M and always will be plus he has to continually compete with Texas in state if he stays at A&M.

This would definitely be a "step up" for Turgeon...I could see that happening.

Huggins' wife might not like the social aspects of "The Little Apple" in Kansas but the social opportunities in Fayetteville are not significantly better. Plus he is getting a little "long in the tooth".

It does not surprise me that Heath is probably out. He came out as a young star after his Kent State team made a surprisingly strong run in the NCAAs one year. His record at Arkansas is mediocre and unlike Iowa State football recently...the basketball fans at Arkansas will not accept mediocrity.

Self and Gillespie are mentioned in every newspaper article and tv/radio report down here as the top names. The AD is Frank Broyles, who has announced he will be stepping down at the end of the year after 50 years at the University, so there may be an issue with some of the coaches not wanting to come work here only to have the head guy change 8 months after they start. I can't see either of those 2 coming, but Self's in-laws live in Tulsa, and he has other connections to the area as well.

By "Glory Days" do you mean recruiting violations and scandals? Which is what happened at Arkansas when Nolan was there.

A couple comments:
-Gillespie would not leave A&M for Arkansas...they have a bottomless pit of funds, and he will be one of the highest paid coaches in the country by next year.
-I don't think Bill Self will coach at KU forever, but I say it's a long, long shot he leaves for Arkansas.
-Larry Eustachy would JUMP at the chance to leave Southern Miss for Arkansas, but he won't get that chance.
-Has it been mentioned that Damon Archibald is Reggie Theus' assistant at New Mexico State...Theus would have to jump at the shot to go to Ark.
-Bobby Huggins, Mark Turgeon, Mike Anderson are all possibilities
-I will throw out Daugherty at SMU as a possibility, Bennett at Washington State would be interesting
-Don't forget that Minnesota is seeking a new head coach, too. Some top notch coaches might be interested in going to the Big 10...

I'd take Reggie Theus he lead the Deering Tornadoes to like 5 state championships on Hangtime. The show was never the same when **** Butkis took over as coach.

I don't recall hearing about recruiting violations or scandals, I remember racism being a big issue with Richardson near the end of his career. But I do remember Arkansas in the final four in 1990, winning it all in 1994 and losing in the championship game to UCLA in 1995. I believe if our beloved Cyclones could have a stretch like that I would sure call it "Glory Days".

So, you don't see Butkus taking over for Theus if/when he leaves New Mexico State? BTW, did the Deering Tornadoes have a really small gym or what?

It was ridiculously small. I don't know what was smaller, their gym, or Bayside High's gym. Poor A.C. Slater had to wrestle in that tiny gym every day...ahhhh Kelly Kapowski... the memories...what a great show.
