Likewise who are the front runners for Universities that were formerly mid at best, but now have nationally recognized prestige?
This one is a bit tougher that people aren't really answering, so I'll take a crack at it.

1) Boise State football
2) Oregon football
3) Baylor fball & bball
4) North Dakota State & South Dakota State in FCS football
5) Clemson football post-Dabo?
6) Butler basketball is a good one
7) Creighton and Marquette basketball (mostly because of move to BigEast, they were good at their level before that)
8) Utah football (b4 this yr, but screw them)
9) VCU basketball
10) Grand Canyon University
11) Liberty University
12) Loyola Chicago bball
13) Tulane fball
14) St Mary's bball
15) Gonzaga bball being what they are now
16) IOWA STATE FOOTBALL

gonzaga bball has been good since the late 90s basically. Mark Few took over in 1999-2000 and has won 83% of games and made the tournament every year.

OK. Makes sense. It does seem that a coach has to buy in to the NIL world and be able to build a culture (CMC comes to mind here) in order to succeed in this new environment. The new 'Bama coach was darn successful in the past.
I agree the new guy was successful, but the SEC is a totally different animal than what he was used to at Washington and the P12. A lot of good to great coaches have gone into the league and messed up their career. Schools like Alabama are not going to give a person much of a grace period, Saban earned it for winning a title at LSU, not sure they will give DeBoer the same.

UNLV, UMASS, and Maryland all jumped out to me. Maryland moving to the B1G killed their basketball program.

Maryland peaked at their title year but then were just decent and not very good before they entered the B1G, and has been generally good since entering with exception to a couple of down years.

Ahhhh...the Shockers...where has Wichita State gone? The coaching changes did them no favors...to go along with not being able to upgrade their conference.

On the opposite side, really starting to see the impact of media $'s on SEC basketball...so many $'s available to not only go after big coaching hires, but the whole NIL process. I really hope that the Big 12 can keep the quality line of coaches.

There are a couple in football that stand out: Miami and Nebraska. Miami hasn't even won an ACC title since it came over from the BE, whereas in the BE they were maybe the most feared team in all of football, with multiple national titles.

Huskers have just fallen off a cliff since they went to the BIG, enough so, that I bet the BIG regrets that invite.

For (probably not) the last time Nebraska was already marginal-bad for a few years before joining the B1G.

Pelini had them at around 9.5 total wins in either conference.

They fell off after 2001 then eventually were just bad with Callahan.

It's been a rough go of it for the Ramblin' Wreck indeed.

Nebraska football is the #1 that pops into my head.

In basketball it's probably Oklahoma State because I remember what a beast GIA was back in the day and now it's a complete mauseleom.

Nebraska, DePaul, UNLV, UCLA. I would even say North Carolina BB has been a bit inconsistent.

I remember Louisiana Tech being really good at Womens basketball when I was young as well. Pretty sure that is who it was.
I was going to say Louisiana Tech, also. They definitely were a top program. I believe they had a number one seed as recently as the 2000 NCAA tournament regional in Kansas City, but got clobbered by Penn State in the regional final after the Lions beat ISU on a last second put-back in the Sweet 16. Little so-and-so PSU point guard, Helen Darling, ripped the ball out of Megan Taylor's hands under our basket for the go-ahead (and final) score.

True. Nick Saban actually killed nebraska football. little known fact: Before Saban went to LSU and locked down the state for recruiting, Nebraska had the pick of the top talent there. Once LSU was able to lock down the top talent in its home state Nebraska, and to a lesser extent, FSU suffered greatly. A lot of Bobby Bowden's top players hailed from louisiana.

Miami used to get a lot of Louisianan's too

That'll be a tough job when Few retires. Imo.

Probably but Few took it over when they were really good also. He might have an assistant that can keep status quo.

Btw let’s add St Johns in this list also. Their basketball under Lou Carneseca was always solid

The State of Hockey
Nebraska football has pretty much lost blue blood status to me. I just think the conditions that made them into a blue blood(big 8, and partial qualifiers) are no longer around and while they certainly can be good. I can’t imagine them being shoulders and shoulders with Bama, ND, USC, Ohio state, etc.

Indiana seems to be a in similar position for basketball. I know there is a good debate if they were ever truly a blue blood in the first place. However, I feel like the only reason people call them a blue blood is because they feel like they have to be one. Italways feels like a pity blue blood award to me. I can’t remember the last time I actually thought Indiana could be a contender in march.
