Personally I don’t think this is necessary for a league to be considered a power conference. I know a lot of media bozos who want the big brands to do well will disagree with me. I think on the field performance should matter and we have seen advanced metrics show the new Big 12 is right there with the Pac-12 and the ACC on that front.

Take this argument to the networks and get back to us.

Are we talking about budgets or football?

That impacts budgets and preseason **** measuring. It won’t impact the SOS much or the chance of the expanded playoffs. Iowa St would have had a chance despite losing to UL. OU won’t be replaced, but with them gone ISU has the auto last year. Ut is completely replaceable outside their contribution to the budget

Iowa State had a chance after losing to Louisiana because they beat Oklahoma and even Texas. You know, brands that give conferences cred because of tradition and eyeballs.

there aren’t wins like that available in the new conference.

This. USC, Oregon, and even a revitalized UCLA are national brands. With OuT leaving, the Big 12 has zero national brands. Just the truth.
Lol. You talking in absolutes is cute.

UCLA is not a "Brand". No one cares about UCLA, not even their own "fans".

Link to that mattering past d*** measuring?
What next, recruiting banners?

The Big 12 will be just as strong as the Pac12 and ACC, and will have playoff access. The Pac12 likely won’t be equal once USC gets unhappy making $40 million less than the P2 anyways

This is so stupid. You want to argue that recent past success makes adding inferior product just fine, but now want to pretend that the past doesn’t matter?

You should definitely wait to see how renegotiations with the actual p4 conferences go before you proclaim to be right.

We're talking about national perception, which matters.

And what "auto" are you talking about last year?
It matters to what? With an auto it matters very little

National perception has Cincy in the preseason top 10 from a conference perceived below the Big 12 3.0 It won’t be an actual issue.

Even if you take UCLA out, the rest is true.
That’s still garbage and your peddling trash. So there’s about a half dozen schools that people care about in the country and that’s it? What other schools do you consider brands?

I’m pretending no such thing. You are, given you’re ignoring how replaceable UT is.

The Pac 12 is likely dead, and has barely been more relevant than the AAC

What’s the historical perception of Cincinnati football?

Surprisingly, you never answered, do you think Iowa state will be rated in the preseason top 10 next year with everyone leaving?

Of course you are.

Would you rather be Cincinnati or Missouri over the last few years was a silly argument you tried to make over and over.

and not understanding, or denying, what school that kept Iowa State alive 10 years ago, because espn gave them their own network, shows you actually never argue in good faith.

like Erik said take this argument to the networks and see how long it takes them to laugh at you

To be honest, not a lot of LA or Californians in general care for SC or UCLA. It feels like a long time since Pete Carroll was there and they were National.
LA is like Minneapolis. College comes way after pro sports.

Also, not that this is a critical point, but Pollard did seem genuinely excited about what is going on with the Big 12. He could be blowing smoke or hiding anxiety, but it didn't seem like it in his interview (on Monday I think). My guess is that a roadmap is in place with the conference and TV partners to keep remaining Big 8 schools (and to a lesser extent the additions) whole in their distributions. Call me too optimistic, but I choose to believe that. Now, would I rather get the BIG invite? For sure, but recent developments don't seem to be 'sky is falling' type stuff.

IMO, those are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Maybe he knows that with exit fees, we're good (or even better off) until 2025 and have a landing pad lined up in the B1G. We can hope, right?!?

Including Clemson is interesting because it shows a school can become a brand in a very short period of time. No one would have had Clemson on such a list a decade ago, or even more recently than that.

Good enough they can make the top 10 from a conference weaker than the Big 12 3.0. You should think about that.

I think Iowa St’s ranking next year would be the same next year whether in the current Big 12 , Big 12 3.0, Pac 12, or ACC. Likely LESS if in the BIG and definitely less in the SEC.

It would take many years of proving people wrong for Iowa St to get preseason benefit of the doubt in the SEC. If anything, in 10 years, history has proven “new” emerging programs are more like to maintain rankings when in conferences without the types you’re alluding to.

Regardless, you’re losing your mind over whether Iowa St can get a preseason ranking if not proven or not actually good. That’s frivolous

WV gave them one of the biggest beat downs I've ever seen only a decade ago.
