I would love to be in the big ten. Why wouldn't you? Get over yourself. It's not about thinking we'd win eight games. I just think it'd bed more fun to play Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska. You know, our geographical neighbors.

It's a free country. Play with anybody you like.

Good coaching would produce wins in the Big12. This coaching would still be losing games to those lousy Big10 teams. Is Tech better than Indiana? Sure. Would you be any more confident in this staff to find ways to win games? I wouldn't.

The conference is not what needs changed.

I agree, a lot needs changed. Coach and QB included. But even this staff would do better with those lousy big 10 teams than hard games each week. What do you need to recruit well? Success. Sure we need more changed than that but a larger chance to win games and get into national spotlight making a bowl would help

I dont think we will join the Big 10. But I also dont think any of these conferences will exist in 10 years. I believe, and really hope, we will be playing with and against much more similar and closer schools in the coming decades.

Hate to say it, but I think you are right. i think it's going to 4 big conferences. I don't want that, but that's where it's headed at present.

Besides Ohio State the big ten wasn't THAT spectacular.... Baylor barely lost to MSU, Wisconsin needed magic to beat auburn in OT, Illinois got slapped by Louisiana tech, Iowa got hammered by Tennessee who wasn't that great last year, Penn state had to go to overtime with Boston college, Maryland got crushed by Stanford, Nebraska lost, Minnesota got pummeled by mizzou. Tcu beat #9 ole miss 42-3. WV gave A&M a ride. Okie state beat Washington. Sure we weren't great either no but the big ten wasn't good at all. Plus, there's what 4-5 big ten teams who didn't make bowls? And only 3 big 12 despite significantly less teams? We'd have far far far easier schedule playing 5 fellow non bowl teams rather than 2(excludes us)

14 is a bigger number than 10 dude. Bound to be more big ten teams sitting at home come bowl season.

Whatever happened, happened. I guess we're just there most unlucky conference and the big ten is lucky? We'll find out more this winter I suppose.

Not only is ISU 0-1 vs the Big Ten (almost beat Iowa=lost by two touchdowns), they are 0-1 vs the MAC, and many years they are 0-1 vs the MVC.

LOL that ISU would be competing for Big Ten West Championships. Without any question at all ISU is worse than:

Iowa
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Northwestern

Not even a question.

I would be willing to bet money ISU wouldn't come close to 5 wins if they played a ten game series vs:

Minnesota
Illinois

And I bet if ISU played Purdue at Jack Trice next Saturday Purdue would be at least a six point favorite.

Know your place Cyclone Fan. You are delusional.

Agreed. This isnt just about wins, it's about that it would be more fun to play those teams/rivals, play within our own region/geography, and let's not forget more money and a conference network rather than just feeding Texas. It's not a less interesting conference either sure maybe less points but I would say, being a very Midwestern person of course, that watching the Midwest teams is far more intriguing. I'd watch a good big ten game over any sec or south game any day. And the Midwest is far far more basketball-loving than the south. Purdue Indiana Illinois Michigan Michigan state.... All just basketball schools and they have no shame. And the big ten basketball has always been and usually will always be better the big 12. Except Kansas. We sorta are a basketball school too, that would just be more fun. And heck let's take KU with us

Most years northwestern is trash. Most years Minnesota isn't good. We would get better. And I guarantee if Purdue played Iowa state next week iowa state would be a favorite. KU would give a run to Purdue. And Purdue usually beats IU. And Illinois is usually trash too. I'm not saying we would compete for west champs either, but we would win 6 games a year. Between non conference easy games in big ten(including the east, who yes, they do have games against what a concept they wouldn't just play west teams!) it would usually be a 6 win program. 6 wins means a bowl. Bowls mean national spotlight and better recruits. If you honestly think Iowa state would lose to Purdue Illinois etc consistently you are delusional and obviously don't pay attention to anything. Know your ****in' place

Behind you
Nebraska went 9-3 their first season? We can easily easily easily easily be a Bowl team if we were big ten. We could schedule an easier non conference for one, and then you add some easy wins from the conference like the many teams I've mentioned many times in this thread you have at least 6 every year easy peasy. We could absolutely 100% do it.

You're selling yourselves way short. You would absolutely WRECK the B1G.

I know it's probably not likely this ever happens either, unless maybe conferences collapse in the future as someone just mentioned, I'm just saying how much better it would be. Likely the big ten wouldn't want us except maybe geographically and our somewhat decently big fan base

Purude is 597–537–48 (.525) all time with 17 bowl games (9-8).

Illinois is 592–559–51 (.514) all time with 18 bowl games (8-10).

Iowa State 510–620–46 (.453) all time with 12 bowl games (3-9).

I absolutely believe Illinois and Purdue would beat Iowa State on a regular basis.

But both programs have good pasts and bad presents. Especially Purdue with their QB history now have fallen completely off the table. Iowa state, ironically enough haha, is a program that has risen from what it was and been better recently than in its past. Plus, like I've said, better chance to beat them than any big 12 team other than KU....

Come on, pal. We have enough of our own fans making idiots out of themselves in this thread. We don't need an Iowa fan doing it, too.

In my opinion we need to beg and plead for admission to the big 10.

We would beg, borrow and steal to get in that conference. This has been true for a long time. They want no part of us.

You can look at a group of teams and claim we would beat them. Sure. That's true. But we wouldn't be playing all of those teams every year and we wouldn't be huge favorites to beat many of them. Look at Iowa's schedule this year. I look at that schedule and say we would be...2-4. With probably a 2-4 close out to the year. And Iowa arguably has the easiest schedule in P5 football. That's harrowing.

Go look at Iowa schedule and tell me what our record would be right now. I'm going with 2-4 with wins over Illinois State and N Texas. We MIGHT win 2 more ( Maryland and Purdue, neither being a sure thing) and there would be a chance we wouldn't win another game. Oklahoma didn't look like world beaters today and TCU isn't lighting the world on fire right now. Baylor will be the top ranked team for our conference, BAYLOR!!! Perhaps I'm the only one who remembers them being the laughingstock of football?

This is sorta true yeah, but more likely we'd be 3-3 because we would probably beat ourselves... we already do! Plus replace that Iowa game with another easy non conference opines would be a nice extra win, since Iowa would be in conference. But we'd have good chances to beat Maryland and Purdue, we could give a game to Illinois, maybe a good shot at Indiana who's been up and down this year(played Ohio state tough but also almost lost to southern Illinois and Florida international), plus a decent shot at Minnesota who yes played tcu tough but also shoulda lost to Colorado state, and not this year but most years northwestern isn't a very tough opponent. Yeah we're Iowa state and those schools may say the same about us, but hey sometimes we gotta just be positive! And it's true, we coukd give games to those teams and we do have chances to win all those. We may not, but we have chances. I would say much better chances than we do of giving a game to TT tcu Baylor OU okst WV UT and k state most years....
