Big Ten

The big 12 the last few years has consistently gotten the worst recruits and sent the least number of players to the NFL draft. The fact that we continue to say we could win eight games with Iowa's schedule is embarrassing.

It wouldn't happen.

We barely were outplayed if at all by Iowa, and they're going to win their division almost certainly. Sure the big 12 may not have many go pro and missed the playoffs, but also almost sent 2 to the playoffs. The big 12 has 8 good teams of 10. I would say every big 12 team other than Isu and KU could beat everyone in the big ten except Ohio state Michigan Michigan state, perhaps close games wit Wisconsin and Nebraska. and our top few could rival and beat those teams too. Playing a big 12 schedule is far harder than playing a big 10 schedule. The big 10 has teams like Purdue Indiana Illinois Rutgers Maryland usually northwestern Minnesota, this year penn state isn't great either.... All of those games are not only easy wins for most team in the big 12 but many winnable for us, some Even certain wins for us.... Trust me I grew up mostly a Purdue fan(not anymore of course!) and we would hammer them, and even they often, even usually, make a bowl. In the big 12 there's 1 easy game, KU. That's the only game Isu can be confident in each year and we sometimes even lose that. Don't even tell me the big 12 is easier to succeed than the big 10

In my opinion we need to beg and plead for admission to the big 10. Football wise, this team simply can't compete well in the big 12. You're going up against teams from the absolute hotbed of football and prospects thereof. In the big 12 there's typically what, 1-2 even conceivably winnable games a year in KU and maybe whatever other team isn't good? Think of all the winnable games we could have in the big ten... Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota, usually northwestern, often Iowa and surely we being Iowa state can upset once in awhile too but.... Absolutely a better chance to win 6 games or more and make bowls each year. I know that's never the goal but for a program like Iowa State we will never win a conference(we would have equal the chance over Ohio state and Michigan as we do now, about 0) we just need to hope for bowls and at least some success. Sure maybe the big 12 is slightly better at basketball now but that can be argued too. That would maybe just mean more success for us, not competing with Kansas just being the best every year besides maybe some Michigan and Indiana contention. Not to mention the other key factors: more money, a television network rather than terrible feeding of money to Texas, a more stable conference that doesn't try stupid things like one true champion, and a naturally better feel.... Iowa fits in better culturally and competitively with a Midwest conference- being a Midwest state- than it does with the south/southwest/whatever you wanna call it, and we could have natural rivalries with Nebraska and Minnesota and of course Iowa then in conference with us.

Right, Penn St. and Nebraska couldn't do it, but of course Iowa St. would come in and win at twice the clip. Whatever you need to tell yourself to sleep at night I guess.

Are you kidding me?

You really think we would lose to Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, blah blah blah. Iowa is looking like the 3rd or 4th best team in the league and we should have beaten them...

Absolutely.

Why do our conference teams continue to **** the bed in bowl games against other conferences? Don't tell me it doesn't matter.

Check the bowls from last year if you don't believe me. I can't post the link. Big ten did very well. Big twelve did very bad.

Nebraska went 9-3 their first season? We can easily easily easily easily be a Bowl team if we were big ten. We could schedule an easier non conference for one, and then you add some easy wins from the conference like the many teams I've mentioned many times in this thread you have at least 6 every year easy peasy. We could absolutely 100% do it.

Even if we couldn't do it which we could, it's still a better chance than just getting the crap beat out of us each and every week in the big 12. At least with the lower level big ten teams we can compete, we can only compete with KU as it is. Plus, joining the big ten would improve recruiting so we get better than we are currently anyways

These threads are embarrassing. No way in hell we'd ever get an invite to the Big 10. And what have you seen on the field that we'd be competitive in the MAC, let alone the Big 10?

Good coaching would produce wins in the Big12. This coaching would still be losing games to those lousy Big10 teams. Is Tech better than Indiana? Sure. Would you be any more confident in this staff to find ways to win games? I wouldn't.

The conference is not what needs changed.

Screw the Big 10. Defeatist attitude. Struggle to win (in football) in the Big 12, let's move to another conference - a boring one at that in football and basketball.

I dont think we will join the Big 10. But I also dont think any of these conferences will exist in 10 years. I believe, and really hope, we will be playing with and against much more similar and closer schools in the coming decades.

Besides Ohio State the big ten wasn't THAT spectacular.... Baylor barely lost to MSU, Wisconsin needed magic to beat auburn in OT, Illinois got slapped by Louisiana tech, Iowa got hammered by Tennessee who wasn't that great last year, Penn state had to go to overtime with Boston college, Maryland got crushed by Stanford, Nebraska lost, Minnesota got pummeled by mizzou. Tcu beat #9 ole miss 42-3. WV gave A&M a ride. Okie state beat Washington. Sure we weren't great either no but the big ten wasn't good at all. Plus, there's what 4-5 big ten teams who didn't make bowls? And only 3 big 12 despite significantly less teams? We'd have far far far easier schedule playing 5 fellow non bowl teams rather than 2(excludes us)

That is a blessing.

I would love to be in the big ten. Why wouldn't you? Get over yourself. It's not about thinking we'd win eight games. I just think it'd bed more fun to play Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska. You know, our geographical neighbors.
