Big 12 Challenge!

**Take 2: Again, I'm sorry to those who have to re-vote! I will also bump this every couple days and stick the thread so we can get the more people involved!


We are about a month out from Big 12 conference basketball season and in my opinion, it's some of the best part of the year. This year will be especially fun because of the Cyclone Fanatic Big 12 Challenge. You've all seen our men's basketball team have its share of ups and downs, and now the challenge is up to you to predict the conference season.

Rules:

Pretty simple! Just pick the games you think ISU will win in conference play. If you do not think they will win, do not check the box. The point totals are as follows:

Pick ISU to win and they win: 3 points
Pick ISU to win and they lose in overtime: 1 point
Pick ISU to win and they lose: -1 point
Do not pick ISU to win and they win or lose: 0 points.

After the regular season we will predict the big 12 tournament to add on to the points. The rules of the big 12 tournament (i.e. how the games will be picked and points ect.) will be announced in the next couple months.

You do not need to pick the games right away, but the poll will be open right up into the Baylor game. This challenge will also be fun to make fun of those with negative points Note that once you pick, you're locked in!

There will still be bookie events for each individual game.

5th - 25,000
6th - 20,000
7th - 15,000

Wow, I hope you're right. I'm gonna wait a little bit yet. I think we might get Okie State here or A&M here but I'm not sure we can beat Baylor.

I'm not so sure we can take Texas. They almost look even more balanced and threatening without Durant.

Not trying to be a downer, but be careful about putting games against Ne in the win column. They are by no means a great team, but they present some very tough match-up problems for us. The obvious one is Maric who seems to pick games against us to play with passion. The real problem is going to be the back court. Ne has added a couple of young guards who are still learning, but have shown the ability to pressure the opposing ball handlers. They average about 9 steals and force 18 turnovers per game.

Creighton showed the way to beat Ne. They played a pressing up-tempo style for 40 mins which forced some bad decisions by the young Ne guards in addition to wearing Maric down. They also drew Maric away from the basket as their entire team can hit the outside shot. The problem I see is that we do not have the ability to play like Creighton did. Our style actually plays into Ne's strengths.

I agree with Steve. I think NU might get us once this year. I want to see us in a couple more games before I make my pics! Let's hope we beat Baylor so everyone doesn't start out with negative points

Yes! it's so tempting to pick though. I figure I'll give people a month to do it.

I'm not so sure we can take Texas. They almost look even more balanced and threatening without Durant.

With my picks, I chose a game we shouldn't win that we could, and a game that we should win that we might let get away. @ Baylor is winnable, but that might be a game that we end up losing... same for Texas. I think that's our best shot at an upset this year.

I've jinxed us on everything else. If I bet I ISU we lose. So, we're pretty much done. Sorry.

Nebraska is 8-2 with losses @Creighton and @Western Kentucky and wins against #16 Oregon, Rutgers, and Arizona State.

Baylor is 8-1 with a 3 point loss to #8 Washington State and wins @Wichita State, @Notre Dame, @Winthrop, and @South Carolina.

Those will be tougher games than a lot of people expected coming into the year.

Just wanted to bump this again after a pretty good showing in the Las Vegas tourney. We are moving the rest of this week, so hopefully when that's all said and done, I can make my picks!
