This was supposed to happen in Decorah. Right along the Upper Iowa River, across from a 350 foot high bluff providing natural acoustics. 500 yards from Toppling Goliath's taproom.

But the Luther president couldn't be bothered with such merriment, so they went to Waverly (Wartburg) instead.

Just a brilliant move on Luther's part.

Let's not get this blown out of proportion. Luther hosts large music camps for middle and high school students throughout the summer. These students are housed in the dorms on campus. According to a couple of friends who work at Luther, there was concern about having a large number of adults staying in dorms concurrent with a large number of high school students. Organizers needed an answer fairly quickly and Luther passed on the event and recommended they look to Waverly/Wartburg (look at us getting along!)

Would it have been awesome? Yes. Financial boost for Decorah? Certainly. However the Dorian Festival camps are major recruitment tools for Luther (it's a big music school for those unfamiliar with it) so I think Luther made the right choice.

Saw Mumford(also Cake) in KC and they were great. Very big get for Waverly. Sounds like Ottumwa was another possibility.

I can think of a lot of times in college that would be higher on the list of 'best things to happen in Waverly'

Waverly's closer to me, anyway. Thanks, Luther!

I can't.

In four years, that town offered very little outside of debt.

MMJ might be a draw to get to me to have a reason to step foot within that place again.

$200 a pop... $7 million in ticket sales alone. I'm out of touch with ticket prices. I'd rather have season tickets to ISU football, even this season.

Don't waste your money. The fact that I've actually heard of some of the bands means they're no good :twitcy: :jimlad:

Jenny Lewis means my wife will want to go. I wonder if Jenny still keeps in touch with Fred Savage?
