Thank god we have a bunch of cyclone fans with good taste in music here. If Led Zeppelin wasn't at or near #1, I would have been amazed.

As far as musical talent and variety, as well as being flat out able to rock the crap out the house, and taking the most liberty with their female groupies... it is not even a contest. Led Zeppelin wins hands down. Each album of their could blow the doors off a greatest hits from some of those bands.

I am disgusted that someone with a set of ear drums would rate Boston or Kiss over Led Zeppeling and the STones. Seriously.

I may be partial because I was named after a Stones song, but I've got to agree with CloneIce on this one. I did vote for The Who, however, who I consider in the same league.

Dance music: BTO; Great driving music: Doobie Brothers; Great listening: Grand Funk Railroad.

And a honorable mention to Deep Purple.

Led Zeppelin, Little Feat, Allman Brothers, the Who, and one band that hasn't been mentioned the Grateful Dead. Going to a Dead concert was eventful enough just to check out all the Dead heads.

I saw the Who in the 70's rock Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. All of the other bands I saw someplace other than Iowa.

Even though I wasn't born until 1987, my list is:
1.Led Zeppelin
2. Black Sabbath
3. Deep Purple

The bands that started to play something called Heavy Metal...

My personal choices are the Rolling Stones, The Who, Zeppelin, The Clash, and Pink Floyd (eventhough I didn't put them on here.) One of my all time favorites from that era is Neil Young, but I didn't include him in the poll since he's technically not a rock band.

Thought I'd start another poll concerning music of the '70s. This time I only included rock bands of the '70s, leaving out the pop or soft rock. I tried to include a variety of styles from Classic Rock to Punk.

1) Boston
2) Reo Speedwagon
3) Bay City Rollers
4) Black Oak Arkansas

Man am I dating myself. lol !

I am sorry but the BAY CITY ROLLERS are NOT a rock band! Didnt a couple of those band members start the Village people.:no6xn:

Jimi Hendrix would be on my list. Probably not #1 but top 5. Jim Croce and Neil Young also are good but not considered rock.

Led Zeppelin IS #1. That should not be considered opinion but fact. :yes4lo:

Ya know, I was was watching 'Heavy: The history of Metal' this weekend and Alice Cooper was mentioned and is often forgotten. Pretty influential and even had some major hits. I am a major metal guy from the old days but, without a doubt...the Stones are the best!! Wait....did you say FROM the 70's or IN THEIR 70's?

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are both 63 years old so in 7 years the Rolling Stones can be both "A group from the 70's" and "A group in their 70's".

It's a tough call for me between The Who, The Stones, and Zeppelin. I gave the edge to The Who because they were just so innovative. Where the Stones and Zeppelin were doing (albeit amazing) reworking of blues, The Who moved away from that early in their career, and basically invented the concept album, the rock opera, using synthesizers, destroying your instruments, the windmill strum, and trashing hotel rooms. Plus, Keith Moon might be the biggest bad a$$ in the history of rock and roll.
