My best buddy since I was born is getting married this weekend and I need to come up with a Best Man Speech.

I have a few ideas written down of stories/anecdotes but wasn't seeing if anybody had any tips, good one liners, etc.

Keeping the speech short is the plan.. Thanks!

"I've been told a best man speech shouldn't last long that the groom on his wedding night." *drop mic and sit down*
I have a friend that used that one at a wedding where most of us in the wedding party were already at.

Just be prepared. Nothing is worse than people who aren't public speakers trying to wing it.

If you're funny, be funny. If you're sentimental, be sentimental. But be short and respectful.

I would echo this honestly. I public speak for about 50% of my job so I'm fairly comfortable doing it. Also don't tell stories that only 3 people would care about. Know your audience.

My CF answer to you is you are a terrible best man for having to come here for advice.Talk about how your high school sucked and how no one liked you clowns...

My real answer is thank the bride's parents, thank the groom's parents, say the food was delicious, give a quick story (positive, why/how you've been friends for so long), "these two will make a great couple" and end it with a cheers. No longer than 3-5 minutes. Nothing sarcastic. Nothing embarrassing.

Went to a buddy's wedding where the best man gave a speech that included a masturbation/STD story and it was just awful. Don't do that. There are grandparents and most likely a priest there.

Damn, you're really worried about this. I thought you were ******* around. I'll work on it.
Haha nah I was just messing in the RTT

Like I said, I have most everything down; just need to piece it together. Just thought there could be some good one liners or good stories from past people doing it.

I don't think there's an exact one-two punch. Just always be over complimentary of the bride and her friends/family, be demeaning of your friend (in a PG way). Standard format would probably be: joke opening, funny story about when they first met/started dating/got engaged that usually is along the lines of how she's out of his league, nice congratulatory comment, last joke, toast.

See I disagree, the entire wedding is about the bride. I feel like the one opportunity to build up the groom is the best man speech.

More than once I've been to weddings where groomsmen have brought up the groom's past sexual discretions during toasts. Don't do that.

I'm a sarcastic *******, so it would be weird for me to be complimentary of my friends. I feel like it would sound forced.

As am I. Especially towards this one. We give each other crap constantly. While I know the bride and have hung out with her A decent, I wouldn't say I know her extremely well. Our friend group isn't a sappy one so besides the basic congrats and a few other things about the couple, I figured I would stay away from that.

Don't be that guy, but if you get a chance to watch that guy you will feel bad for his pets, his parents, his former teachers....

One nice story, one joke and one reason why you know they'll be a good married couple. Cheers and done. 2-3 minutes tops, no one came to hear you talk.

Maid of honor speeches are always a train wreck and some of the most awkward things I've ever witnessed. If you go to bars before the reception, buy her a couple shots and enjoy the show.
