Lol yeah you don’t go to Waffle House for the fine dining but it’s great drunk/hangover food.

I've never had Waffle House, is it a good value, regular price, or overpriced?

3 or 4 times a week I will encounter a 4 block traffic jam that ends up being an In&Out Burger drive through line. The food is just ok but it's somewhat fresh and it costs less than McD's. I suspect the fact that it's the cheapest meal in the state of CA is part of the success.

While it’s nothing special, it is more food, better, and cheaper than McDonalds. When I was working in the Bay Area, my hotel was across the street from an In&Out. There was a line from 10am to midnight, typically backed well into the street.

When I make the trip back to Iowa, I'm struck by the size and eating habits of the people.
That's because we're from the Midwest, where size of the proportion, is right behind how it tastes and smells. The feeling is simple, "I am willing to pay you for food, I expect to walk out of here not feeling hungry." If I wanted to eat and still be hungry, I would be eating French food.

I voted for Cracker Barrel, love their breakfast menu and the wife likes to shop in the store in the front, good food at a decent price, and now they even serve beer.

I’ve got an aunt in Sacramento. I can promise you there’s fat people in California too.

Agree, fat people everywhere. Looking at the latest rankings, the top 8 most overweight/obese states start with West Virginia and then it's all the deep south... Miss, Ark, Kent, Tenn, S Car, Louis, Ala. Iowa's not too bad coming in at #11.

Always figured the upper Midwest would be the top. Hard to get much exercise in when it’s 10 below, blowing winds and snowing. I know I slim down during the summer even without trying.

This is part of why I opt for shoveling instead of a snowblower, pretty good winter exercise.

I was at O'Hare with some work acquaintances from France once, and I'll never forget how much they were struck by the size of our cups of coffee, to them even the medium sized cup looked huge.

They've actually found a link between cold weather and weight loss

If it was only warmer weather that made you lose weight, the South wouldn't be the diabeetus belt

Lol. Are you new to America? This isn't unique to Iowa. It's a feed trough mentality in about 90% of the country, almost entirely true in the midwest and south.

I live in a healthy state. The other state I visit most often is Iowa. It can be jarring to see how many obese people are filling up their 32 oz Mountain Dews when I go back home. I understand it's not unique to Iowa. That doesn't mean it isn't an issue in the state.

"There are fat people everywhere" lol. Yeah, there's just a lot more in the south and the midwest.

You're in Washington, right? I'd say you live in a "healthier" state. Iowa's obesity rate is around 34%. Washington's is around 28%.

As a region, no doubt the midwest and south are embarrassingly ahead of the pack.
