Latin King is great. Get reservations though, it does get busy. Prices were pretty reasonable I thought. Italian food seemed very authentic. After reading this thread, I am excited to try some of those other places. I can't believe how great the restaurant scene is here in Des Moines, we really do get spoiled.

Ugh, now you all have gone and made me hungry for some good Italian food, something that is difficult to achieve at 3 am. I hate you all:wink:

I prefer Riccelli's, you get more food for the money than anywhere else, besides, the wife is related to them. Say hi to Pete if you go there, unless he looks grumpy, then watch your arse.

I like the following for italian:

Marinos
J. Benjamin's

They're both on Franklin. Marinos is in a strip mall but they have great food imo. Bring your own wine also.

While both good, neither are on the south side as requested in the original question.

I agree with the comment about why anyone would go to Italian chain restaurants (Olive Garden, Biaggi's, Bravo Italiano, etc.) in Des Moines when there are so many good, authentic locally own ones to choose from. Talk about not appreciating (and taking advantage) of what you have.

I will miss the Trattoria as well. #@#$!! flood!

I will have to try those places since they are pretty close. Heard alot of good things about J.Benjamin's.

That's the truth. We are lucky to have some great resterauntuers here in the Des Moines area. The more we support the local restaurants the better it will get as they expand and branch out. We RARELY go to chains and go out quite a bit, still haven't scratched the surface of all the great places in town!

Went to Tumea and Son's last night and was blown away! Great food, and it was really fast! Good service too, and yeah that house parmesan dreassing kicks butt. We still have a ton of it in the fridge. Thanks for the recommendations!
