Best ISU bar in the metro area (DSM Metro)?

It will probably be hard to find a bar that is specifically pro-ISU. There will be a mix at most bars with Hawkeye fans outnumbering ISU fans, but the difference should be less than ever.

Doesn't a former Cyclone FB player own a bar or restaurant in Urbandale or one of the other western burbs?

Hezekiah (sp?) Jackson used to run a BBQ joint in Urbandale. It appears to have closed a year or so ago. Bad location for a restaurant.

I went to The Ridgemont once for a ISU game watch (game when Arnaud went down). They had the Squakeye game on the big screen, and the 10 Hawkeye fans were loud, drunk, and obnoxious.

No need to repeat yourself, you said they were Hawkeye fans.

Saints Pub in Beaverdale is Cyclone friendly, as is Trophys in Des Moines I believe.

Edit: Confirmed that Saints is an official ISU game watching site by the Greater Des Moines Cyclone Club. There ya go.

I've never been to Saints for a Cyclone game, but it is a nice place. Wall to wall TVs. Good food. They even have a little outdoor patio with TVs I believe.

I haven't decided it I"m going to watch at home or go out. I personally think it is more fun to have a mix of fan bases. We watched Seneca take down the Hawks in 2002 in bar that was about 50/50. That would not have been as enjoyable if it was all Clones IMO.

If I do head out, I'm leaning towards heading to Court Avenue....especially if the weather is decent. Patios at either Mickey's or Legends would be fun....plus you have the added bonus of several other venue's (Johnny's HOF, 4th Down, etc) to choose from if the current environment isn't to your liking.

Anyway, should be a blast!

Realized I didn't really answer the question as posted in the thread title. (first time anyone's done that:)

According to Greater DSM Cyclone Club:

The Keg Stand in West Des Moines and Saints Pub + Patio in Beaverdale, are the official homes of the Greater Des Moines Cyclone Club gamewatches. Cyclone Fans from all over central Iowa can gather here as a home away from home, to watch our team play when we are televised.

Cyclone Friendly locations
Murphy's Bar & Grill - 2675 100th Street, Urbandale
The Ridgemont - 7460 Hickman Road, Windsor Heights
Trophy's Sports Bar & Grill - 2701 Douglas Ave, Des Moines

A valuable thread for a new to Des Moines Cyclone! I've had my eye for decent places to grab a meal and a beer with my wife for away games since we're still not planning to shell out for cable.

Has anybody done a Cyclone gameday at either of the Jethro's locations? Good or bad idea? Do you have to get their super early? We went to the Altoona location last week because her grandpa was stopping at Praire Meadows on his way to somewhere else and I thought it seemed like a great place to catch a game, but maybe it gets run over by Hawks on Saturdays.

The Keg Stand is a phenomenal supporter of this website and hosts events like the one we had last night. Ryan is an Iowa State grad, big Cyclone fan and will do whatever he can to make that place THE Cyclone spot. I'd like to see everybody support him as much as possible. It's a great spot.

Tasty food?

I like their food. Especially wings & apps. Haven't had the pizza, but heard it isn't the greatest. Steak night (Mondays, iirc) is a pretty good deal, & tasty.

I believe the food is actually handled by a separate company from inside the bar, not that that makes a difference.
