It's funny that banks are going away from this and pushing their app deposit systems now too.

I used to go to the bank 3+ times a week to deposits payments but the tellers steered me towards the new app that I can deposit checks with. Now I only go in when I have cash to deposit. I thought it was weird the teller was steering me towards the mobile deposit thus potentially eliminating their job.

So I can wrap all these coins but whose going to count them? Unless they double check by weights or something.

Because I'm anonymous on a forum, I'm comfortable saying that's exactly what I'm doing. After I've compiled my $83 every three years for the next 60,000 years, I'm going to buy a boat.

That's pure Dave Ramsey school of money laundering.

I've used at least four different branches of Community 1st Credit Union to cash in coins.

The main branch of my credit union on Lyon has a coin separating machine behind the counter but if I go to the Altoona branch I have to use the self serve machine. Community Choice CU.

We have a ton of change as it seems none of us in the house actually use it during purchases. I probably would, but I hate carrying change in my pockets, so it goes in the jar as soon as we get home. We have just resorted to using the CoinStar machines at the grocery store we frequent. Their fees are stupid high for cash, but if you choose the Amazon option, there is no fee. It sucks not being able to deposit change directly to the bank anymore as it was always nice seeing a couple hundred bucks deposited, but my wife uses Amazon so much, it's just as nice always having money in our account there as well. It's kind of a wash for us, since the money would end up going to Amazon no matter what.

Funny because I take my coins every week to Wells Fargo and they do it.
I went into my Wells Fargo a couple weeks ago (Washington state) and ended up spending a good 40 minutes wrapping $7 worth of change at an empty banker's desk. Don't feel a bit bad for the couple of Canadian coins that made their way into the rolls.

I have 3 bank accounts.

Online Bank
Do most everything here. Good savings rate so I have checking and savings

Local Bank
Use this strictly for bills that are automatically deducted. So I have $*** come out of my paycheck and automatically deposited into the checking account. That same amount gets deducted from my bills (Verizon, Mediacom, Mortgage, etc)

Local Credit Union
Strictly for cashing in change once a year or so. I also have about 500 checks from this bank for the twice a year or so that I have to actually write a check.

I was thinking of combining my Local Bank and local Credit Union but the credit unions web site is so horrible that I just can't do it. If it wasn't for those checks, I would just close it but I guess it's not hurting anything. I can transfer between the 3 banks online so it's never hard to move around money. The other good thing about having all these accounts is that when I travel overseas, I can give one card to my wife and keep the other card to myself in case we lose one.

It is common practice. They ask that you put it in those paper sleeve things.

Last time I did this, I brought it to a Walmart that had a change counter machine. I didn't find out until afterwards but the fee was pretty exorbitant.
I thought they stopped taking the paper sleeves because they had to run them through the counter anyway to verify they weren't getting nickeled and dimed.

My bank will still take my change jar and run it through the machine. I hate paying the 9.5% or whatever CoinStar charges.

Here is another one, the bank that we use for our charity group actually charged us a $4 fee for DEPOSITING CASH
