Is the Dutch Oven (terrible name for a bakery but great food) still open? Haven't been in Ames in about 5 years. They had some AWESOME mocha filled doughnuts.

Is there a decent donut place in Ames? Donutland closed a while back (and even they weren't awesome).

Up north
What is wrong with Hy-vee, fareway, or Casey's. These might not be mom and pop but they are all owned by people in Iowa.

Hey fanatics, I'm hungry this morning and looking for a local bakery that makes doughnuts?

Anyone old enough to remember Spudnuts?

I think they closed around 1975 - they were located close to the Hy Vee off of Lincolnway.

We love Dutch Oven! (I get a chuckle out of the name.)

We live in WDM now, but stop into Dutch Oven when we are in Ames.

when I was there in the early 80s, there was a place east of the Jack that served potato flour doughnuts. I don't remember the name of the place, bit they were darn good.

They were open way later than that. I remember that place as a kid.
