This is why I hate preseason polls. Kentucky ranked high in the preseason and proceeds to go 0-3 in the first week including a loss to unranked UNI. Instead of being out of the poll like an 0-3 team should be they drop to 16th with Creighton and UNI (both of whom beat UK) right above and below them.

Let things shake out for a few weeks and then when you have something beyond what a totally different team last year did you can rank them intelligently.

The little things made a difference against OSU. Mark Barnard, their coach, had just enough right answers to keep one step ahead even when behind. Icing services is routine in VB (I think he did 3 times with great effect and once late in the fifth). He got his team to respond and stay ahead, or come back when behind, with personnel changes, TOs and calling rotations. Some luck, but he seems to have coached a great game.

I was wondering how UNI came from outside the rankings to #17:

About No. 17 UNI

The Panthers are coming off a busy weekend in Los Angeles, where they upset then-No. 5 Kentucky and No. 13 Creighton to shoot up in the rankings. UNI is led by Karlie Taylor, who put down 4.82 kills per set and put up 2.82 digs per frame last weekend.

Wednesday will mark the 56th all-time meeting between the two teams, with UNI leading the all-time series 28-27.

Nebraska lost to then #7 Florida (4th now) at home. We play NEbbie in a couple weeks at their house on 9/9.

If you mean, we are probably going to lose, then yah. They are off to a great start on the road and we stumbled through an opening set of games at Hilton. A tough NC schedule seemed like a good idea in a league that isn't top tier right now but we could end up with a pretty bad NC record heading into Big 12 play.
I can appreciate the quality of UNI’s program but this is a match ISU needs to win after 2 straight losses to them and screwing the pooch against Oregon St. CJL mentioned after the OSU match that Schaben’s PT may need to be reduced which can be translated to mean she will no longer play back row where she struggled against OSU. Will be interesting to see tonight if that happens and who replaces her on the back row.

I didn't get to see Oregon St but it will be interesting to see what happens. I seem to remember CJL talking about using Schaben's back row attack but if she is struggling to pass.....

CJL only played 8 tonight with Schaben and Anderson playing both front and back row. Herrera and Bailey didn't play. Helluva win in a great road game environment.

Just go back home from CF. Was a great game at UNI’s first sellout. Looked a lot better than last weekend with the exception of some occasional poor serves that prolonged game 3. Best 8 played tonight. Thought Eleanor played very well for a freshmen. Had some heat on her hits like Grace has shown. Looking forward to a great season!

First time seeing EH play and she IMPRESSED! If teams have to worry about her others are going to feast. I don't know who that team was last night but it wasn't one we have seen so far this season. Long may it continue!

Was ESPN+ cutting out for anyone else last night? My internet is fiber optic top notch and lightning fast and Roku is newer. Thanks

yes! It was terrible.

EH is going to be hella fun to watch. Hopefully her being so dangerous will allow more from Schaben as well. She gets camped on a lot and then wears out her arm. Be nice for her to not have to be the always go-to hitter.

I had few problems.

CJL filled-in on how they used Schaben to increase her effectiveness and maybe limit her arm use. i caught it in the post-presser paraphrasing: we moved Jesse all around front to back and it took them awhile to adjust.
