So this may have been discussed and I missed it and its not related to the asst coaches salaries, but I have a question: Is there perceived to be significant chance that Otz could be hired by Wisconsin next year when Bo Ryan leaves?

Bo is advocating publicly for Greg Gard, so I doubt Otz would be in line for the head coaching job. I assume that he could be looked at as an assistant there though.

The only real connection he seems to have is that he's from Wisconsin and recruits the state well. I don't know if he'd want to leave again after one year for a slightly better than lateral move, it would make more sense for him to look for a head coaching job imo.

You mean as an assistant, right?

I could see it. We were put in a huge hole for that year, and it would probably help him get an HC job.

I think we all need to be careful talking about what makes more sense for everyone. It made more sense for Hoiberg to stay at Iowa State until at least the next kid was out of school. It made more sense for TJ to try and get a head coaching job this year than to come back to Iowa State.

If we have learned anything this summer its that people don't do what we think makes sense.

Yea, I meant as an assistant. He could use the potential opening to help leverage a raise I suppose. Hopefully he'll help us land some quality recruits and that won't be necessary.

Your point is mostly spot on. For whatever reason this place puts him on a pedastal, even though he hasn't achieved much of anything and no one wants to hire him as a HC.

I was estatic to hire him as an assistant, but you guys hyping him up way more than he deserves is mind blowing. He has no business being our HC at this point in time, and you don't just give him a raise because you feel bad for him.

If he's such a little ***** like you make him out to be and can't handle staying here because Fred left and because he didn't get the HC job, then let him go.

If he's fine with sticking out his contract like I'm sure he is, then keep him. If he warrants a raise/extension next year, then give it to him.

But not now.

Just named Summit League Coach of the Year? What do you think of the little ***** now? ;>)

He’s the next Greg Kampe? Or Scott Sutton?

Not many coaches have made the jump from Summit League directly to anything past a mid-major. Recent two-time COY winner Saul Phillips converted it into the Ohio U job.

Any MVC or AAC jobs expected to come open soon?
