Big thanks to all of you for the great conversation! While I obviously hope you lose tomorrow, I've got tons of respect for your fanbase! Easily my favorite fanbase to have interacted with since joining the Big 12.

Thanks for letting me poke my head in here and crash your party.

Regardless of how this game ends, I look forward to many excellent matchups between our teams in future seasons too!
Congrats on the win. Skattebo was everything hyped and more - unbelievable balance and drive. Honestly, in some ways, the best comparison for him is David Montgomery (and that is the biggest complement I could give)

Turnovers and big plays definitely were the whole game.

Go beat the horns

I hear you. I'd have hated to see that too, especially with the game going how it was and emotions were high. I was upset to see Becht on the ground. My fiancé and I said a little prayer when we saw him not get up right away. As a football fan I live for big hits, but only the ones that don't result in injury.

I've got my disagreements about that being a targeting penalty, but I'll make that argument over on my board. That's not super relevant here.

Wish you guys nothing but the best. I woke up today honestly in a bit of disbelief that we won like we did against such a quality team. Nothing but respect to you guys.
Again, rooting for you guys, but you did open a beehive on the targeting call. Whether you believed it wasn't targeting or not, you would get the same call if it was involving your QB. It was targeting, our guys have gotten targeting calls doing much less (the past couple of years), and the QB's, WR's, etc. need this type of call for their protection.

CloneLawman can get a little bent at times, but on this one, I would want him on my side.

I had tickets on the Sun Devil side. 50yd line row 19.

When that play happened, I immediately said I don't know guys, I think this might go against you. When I saw it live, I thought it was because he finished his hit to the ground and hit Rocco's head into the turf. I didn't see the contact to the chin live.

Of course the ASU guys around me didn't agree. That said, it was one of the shortest reviews I've seen. It was clear as day on the replay and the guys around me knew right away when they showed the replay in the stadium.

As far as bad targeting calls go, that one doesn't even register.

Not exactly sure.
Nothing textbook about it. He was "facemask up" aiming for the chest pads. Becht happened to finish his progression on the left and as he shifts right he bends his knees and faces Simmons at the moment of impact. If Becht waits even .5 seconds longer looking the other way there is zero head or neck contact. That was about as bang-band a play as you can get.

I know emotions are high so I'm not going to debate it, it was a mistake to make that comment on this board. I wouldn't be happy with it either if I was in your shoes. But I believe it objectively was not targeting.
It wasn’t face mask up, it was halfway between. Player also left his feet on the hit which is another sign of targeting. You can’t hit a defenseless player like that.

That and the end of the BYU game your coach came across as an asshat.

That was so dirty. Hard to cheer for a team with a player and culture that would let that happen.

Sure, he didn't make the impact with the crown of his helmet, he went in face mask first. He didn't launch, he was running straight through. In terms of the head/neck area hit, the reason I believe that's a no call is because he wouldn't have if Becht hadn't turned to the right in that moment to read his progressions on the right side. An example I'll use would be the no-call in the Texas/Georgia game last night. If the offensive player's movement is what moves their head in to the path of a defender who is too close to change course, I believe that should be a no call.

Simmons is a good dude. Not a dirty player at all. There's no way he ran in there thinking "I'm aiming for the head" and I think on replay you can clearly see he was aiming for chest pads. (Watch the replay they do on the broadcast from lower angle and you can clearly see his facemask up aiming for the chest pads.)
Not facemask and did leave his feet on the hit. You are digging a hole while making things up.

There is a part of me that wants to look at all of the rather ludicrous missed tackles, and think that we sandbagged so that ASU impressed the committee more. Well if so, it worked.

If that were the case, we took the hit for the team, Big 12. You owe us one.

Sigh. If only that were true. Any part of it.

Next year!

I can't argue too much with that. What was Dillingham's response? Seemed the other coaches were whooping it up.

Still, I'll be rooting for the Big 12 and the bigger picture. I might not be rooting too hard.

He was screaming at the ref about the call.

Yeah, not a big Dillingham fan so far.
Love Dillingham. He's my 2nd favorite coach in college football in all likelihood. Super passionate about his university and his team. It was a targeting but I Don't blame a coach for sticking up for his players.

Leavitt’s play has not only earned him accolades on the field such as the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, but tons of opportunities in an age of budding NIL initiatives.

With those opportunities set to come, the 19-year-old wants to make sure his teammates can also reap the benefits.

In a press release, ASU’s NIL Collective, the Sun Angel Collective announced on Friday that the 19-year-old quarterback will give back to his team directly through 2025 including 100% of Leavitt’s earned royalties from merchandise sales earned through various platforms.

Now, I'm sure he will get paid plenty from the NIL, etc... but that's cool. Sucks it had to be against us but was very impressed with him all year and on Saturday, unfortunately.

He was acting like a clown at the end of the BYU game. Well almost end of the game.

Yeah, that one was weird. But then I try to remind myself... he's what, the youngest p4 head coach?

His journey is very much on going. He's back home, literally etc... I find him different than say a PJ Fleck, who seems a manufactured type of guy. KD for better or worse, seems genuine. I imagine he will grow and mature but he's 34 years old and having the greatest or one of the greatest seasons in school history.

While it'd be great for him to act like he's been there before, etc... I've seen managers and coaches who are in their 60's and 50's act worse though his blood certainly does run hot.

I imagine as he gets a little older, a little more experienced, he'll reign in his temperature. But time will tell

If we play them next season it might get crazy. I would be pissed if my QB was hit like that…
