Are we the medias favorite team?

Remember that our program was down in the dumps for a while, so everyone is loving us because we used to be the team that nobody else cared about. Now that we have a great coach (with a very hot wife. Did anyone else see that video where they followed Carol around for the day and showed her working out? Fred is one lucky man!) who had to retire because of a heart condition, it's just stuff that the media loves to eat up. This whole transfer thing is great as well since our program is the best at it. Everything about this program has turned us into media darlings. We still are not the media's favorite program. That award has to go to Kentucky followed by Duke and Kansas.

This.

ESPN has the Big 12 TV contract for bball = ESPN love fest for ISU and the Big 12.
FOX has the Big 12 TV contract for football = ESPN meh the Big 12, especially meh ISU.

It's an outrage.

Lot of butt-hurt over at phog.net regarding media attention to clones. In general some over there going off the deep end with hate at all things ISU.

Ku fans hate us now
"I think I dislike ISU basketball fans more than KSU basketball fans. Impressive."
"This game strengthens my belief that KU, OU, and Texas are the three best teams in the league, regardless of records. K-State is a legit team, but isn't a title contender. ISU is a title contender, but not a great team. We will obliterate them in Lawrence."

I truly don't understand your fascination with the Cyclones. Are you guys starting to get little brother syndrome after losing to us two times in a row?

We're the "fun" and exciting team to watch with our style of play, and with success, that means we're going to get a lot of praise... especially when some of the top teams are focused on defense and slower play (i.e. UK, Virginia, Duke, etc). Hoiberg knew how to build an exciting program where recruits would want to play, fans would want to watch, and we'd naturally have an advantage - for once.

I don't know that we're a favorite so much as our style and success dictates a lot more attention and praise. We can still lose on any given night and win on the biggest stage, but the pendulum is finally swinging in our favor.

You know the ISU program is moving in the right direction when the fans of the 10 time defending champions are getting all sorts of butt hurt about the media attention that ISU is receiving as a program. Oh... and as Hoiberg is building the program up each year since his arrival back in Ames the games have been far more competitive and now ISU is starting to come out on top of the Jayhawks more frequently. Jayhawk fans have become accustomed to winning the Big XII every year, having the media slobber all over them, etc... Not anymore.

I don't blame the Jayhawk fans for feeling the way that they do. It's hard to let go when you know that things are never going to be like they were in your glory days. It's hard for them to see people recognizing that Hoiberg is building the program that is going to replace their once mighty Jayhawks as the Kings of the Big XII. I don't blame them for being in denial... they've had a great run but like any great empire... it is going to fall. They see the writing on the wall.

As Cyclone fans we need to embrace these times... the changing of the guard in the Big XII. It's our time now.

The attention is earned by being very good, relevant and entertaining. We also have a great coach, who is a good looking dude and has a fantastic background story to go along with him. The consistency of 3 straight NCAA tournaments helps too.

Winning record in those 3 appearances and looking like we were under seeded all three times too.

Probably ought to be a bit further in the season before you proclaim a regime change. And you're foolish to think this is the beginning of the decline of KU. KU has had ridiculously young teams last year and this year after losing their entire starting five after the '13 season and three more starters after the '14 season. All but maybe one or two players return for KU next year so we'll be getting back to what most KU fans are used to soon enough. Maybe I am in the minority as far as KU fans are concerned but I am happy to have another team in the Big 12 be a national contender. More national respect for the conference overall helps financially, helps tv coverage, recruiting, etc... Part of the allure of going to Duke or Carolina was pointing out that the Duke-Carolina games get national attention. If KU-ISU can develop into that it would be great!

Where is tuco to weigh in on this? I haven't heard a peep out of that guy since the game. I think he's afraid to say anything because he knows he's in for a proverbial bashing.

There is no doubt we are the media's favorite team. And that's not just the section of the media that has some vested in interest in promoting us. We're a genuine feel good sort of story.

Then you haven't been reading the boards much since Saturday. I have been here. ISU is playing great right now and I am happy that they are getting national respect for it 1) because it's good for the Big 12 for any Big 12 team to get publicity and 2) because now ISU fans can't gripe that you get no respect when it's deserved. One less thing to complain about.

I don't necessarily think we're one of the media favorites, but we certainly are the flavor of the week. However, if the flavor of the week becomes popular enough, eventually it does become a favorite.
