The funniest part of this thread and the 2 others with reasons and arguments over why "support is down" is that the game in question is going to sell out and, as has been pointed out, based on opponent, would never have sold out in previous seasons.

Which shows how much opponents matter generating excitement. Nearly ranked in top 15 and it’s barely a sellout. We won’t have Texas and Oklahoma on the home schedule again, and lost Missouri and Nebraska a long time ago. Finding a way to sell out games going forward is going to be very hard unless we are ranked or playing Iowa every other year.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this thread has been given some leeway because of the Iowa State tie in, but let's not bring blatant political speech and accusations into it, especially stuff that has nothing to do with the subject of the thread

Is the CC number still 6K….thats what it was years ago. Brutal. No doubt that a large percentage of WW donors are the same.
But that doesn't represent only 6,000 individuals. Very few Cyclone Club ticket purchases are for a single seat. I don't have a Cyclone Club membership but our group pools resources so we can get an RV pass for our bus. That requires a minimum Captain level donation plus the price tag on the pass itself.

I agree. Going to see the play CIncy and some of the other new teams is not exciting at all to me. I actually think it's the opposite. I might be more excited to go see a game in Provo or UCF. It was always nice to Have old school Nebraska coming to town or OU when we have a chance to pull an upset or something like that.

I find farming to be an interesting excuse. Everyone has their situation obviously but for me, the weather window for planting is more critical than harvest. I just started yesterday and have a lot of acres. I'm on the east side of the state so 3 hour drive to Ames. We have season tickets. I am taking Saturday off to go to the game. I will fire back up on beans on Sunday. I will take the 19th off.

I will do field work as long as the weather allows and still make it over for the Tech and Cincy games. I can't plan to be in the fields at Thanksgiving time like I was last year as the weather cooperated. Regardless, that wouldn't affect us from making the KSU game too.

I would miss games if they played in the spring.

For sure but we aren’t the only fan base that does that. Our total number of donors has plateaued and we have one of the lowest totals versus our peers.

You aren't factoring in how far someone may have to drive. 4 hours is just the game time, that isn't including traffic to and from and maybe they get an hour or 2 early to tailgate if they are lucky. Just for me 45 minutes from Ames if I am tailgating it's nearly a full day away from my family most games. At minimum if I was just going to the game it would be 6+ hours of time: 4 for the game, 1.5 hours of drive time not including the additional time I would be waiting in traffic just to get in/out of town so even then I would say its closer to 8 hours if I skipped the tailgating I normally do for 5-6 hours in advance. I have season tickets with 2 guys, 1 that drives 2 hours 1 way and farms and the other drives nearly 3 hours 1 way so both have a significant time commitment just to drive to and from the game.

Don't give me this crap that "it's only 4 hours to attend a game." Maybe if you live in Ames it is but I bet you there are people here that drive from out of state even to get to games on a regular basis that would disagree. I'm going to defend the farmers from ridiculous statements like this. It's not as simple as you claim and to top that off they likely are putting in some long hours right now too so I can't imagine for some of them that have to drive longer distances that getting home after midnight for a night game already on short rest sounds like a lot of fun when they can listen to John and Eric in the combine or tractor or maybe stop a little early for the evening and watch it with their family at home and get to bed at a decent time.

I drive 3.5 hours each way for games.

Do you disagree that other industries work weekends and people still make the games?

That’s part of why we park on campus, to get out of town faster.

The long drive was easier with our previous dog, who had a bladder of steel and was well behaved.

Relatives are watching the current pup this weekend. They live about halfway on the drive but we still won’t be picking up until around midnight. At least we know how to break in to get the dog if everyone is asleep.

I just think you need to lay off singling out farmers when you don't have first hand experience of their lives around this time of the year. This is along the same lines of arguments we have around here like the lack of student attendance at games when some of them literally live across the street from Hilton and walking distance from JTS. These arguments trying to single out certain people for not attending games is pointless and unnecessary divisiveness amongst our fans. Am I a bad fan for missing a game if my kids have something going on at the same time? I've missed some of my kids things to go to games and have to explain that to them so I've been on both sides of reasons for not making a game. Am I not a good fan since I don't donate to the NCC or We Will Collective? It's not productive to be negative towards certain parts of our fanbase, we all want ISU to succeed, and we all have our own reasons and circumstances of why we support at the levels we do.

A lot going on in this thread. For years our strength has been that our fans show up. Lots of people on this board had butts in seats when we stunk at football. Lots of them still do. Most will continue to when it matters.

I don’t think the sky is falling with ISU fan support. Football, MBB, WBB, Wrestling are all about is good as they’ve ever been at one time. It’s never been a better time to be a Cyclone fan. Kids are still sleeping in tents to get into Hilton. The Jack will be rocking this Saturday.

However, it’s a challenging time for college sports.
- It’s challenging to be an Athletic Department and having to find up to $20M while being able to hire and retain quality staffs. Conference travel has never made less sense. Coaches having to re-recruit their players every season.
- It’s challenging to be a fan. Having to buy multiple streaming options, pricy official apparel, NIL, increased ticket costs, increased parking costs, 3rd party ticket brokers and their fees, etc.

I’m not taking this political, but a lot of people’s dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to. We are a fanbase by and large of regular people. Unless someone finds oil on their farm this weekend, we will continue to be exactly that. Thats okay.

TLDR: We all show up to support in our own ways. Things are challenging right now.

And I give a lot of credit to @brentblum and WeWill for thinking outside the box. You don’t have to eat the pizzas or drink the beer, but at least you get something delicious back for those dollars spent.

Well ISU lost to a G5 program in their magical 2020 season so let's just wait and see about this 'maybe 50 open seats for Baylor' thing.

/s before the forks come out.

Idk, I’d say the weather window for harvest is pretty darn critical. It’s been easier the past few falls since we’ve had warm dry weather, but obviously it’s not always like that. Plus depends on how many acres you have. Many can’t afford to skip a good weather Saturday to go watch football.

4 tickets left until the sellout, so it appears the answer is no.

EDIT: My ticket master was being weird, it's like 16 in 4 different groups of 4.

If we lived in Ames or DM metro, the tickets I would get for sure would be women’s basketball. Good, fun team and a great value. Midweek games would be super hard with the drive.
