We drove down...easy trip. Grayer's freshman year and we played, yes, Ohio State. They had two tremendous guards and we got beat.

That was 1985 I think. It was Johnny Orr's first NCAA trip with Iowa State. We had played in the NIT the prior year. 1986 is then when we beat Michigan in Minneapolis.

Yeah. I was a junior in high school and remember watching that game. My cousins (huge Hok fans) were brutal in their teasing when the Cyclones lost ("Big Ten" "Big Ten" was their chants). But, I was so glad that the Sqwaks got beat, also in the 1st round, by a lower-seeded Arkansas team - at least there was some satisfaction to the tourney when all was said and done!
