The good thing is JP is on the selection committee and watching a ton of good teams play the last couple years, so i am sure he has a few surprise guys he is looking at. Plus he had to have a pretty good idea last year this was coming, so I would bet he has 3 or 4 guys ready to go.
Moser is an excellent coach. Not sure he is an Ames type of guy though. And it has been a long time since he looked at Big 12 level competition every day. He was at Texas A and M but it was over 20 years ago now. I live near him and before COVID hit went to Loyola games a lot. Even when they sucked he was in control of his team and stuff Prohm let’s his guys get away with isn’t going to fly with him.
I do wonder though, it’s a different type of recruit you have to get in the Big 12, and he would have to realize, you can win a few games 61-60 in the Big 12, but you are going to have to score a lot more points than you do at Loyola. That’s just reality. Their pace is better this year, but his teams will struggle to score a lot. Right now they are #1 in Adj D in Kenpom but also the always above 300 in AdjT, they play slow, like really slow.
So you gotta be able to pitch 17 year old elite guys from Chicago to come to Iowa State and play really really slow.
Not saying that can’t work, Wisconsin plays slow, Tech plays slow too, Tim Floyd played slow, but he had the perfect team to do it with too, and Tim Floyd was a crazy good coach. And if you are going to to that, you gotta have the right guys. I love watching Loyola, I love how they play, but it’s going to be an uphill climb in Ames to play that slow and win consistently.
I worry he might have some of the same problems as Greg did before he figured it out at Creighton.
Wouldn't hate it, he’s the perfect coach for Loyola, I would root like hell for him, but boy, I just don’t think he is the right fit at Iowa State.
