I think it has been widely covered in Podcasts why we play these games on occasion. If I remember correctly, it is a financial decision. It is financial better to have a home and home series versus paying schools to come to Ames every year. I trust Jamie has a better handle on the finances that you, even though you seem very smart. Most of the other Big 12 schools do similar home and home series. In all due respect you should hate going to these destinations because ISU should never be going to these destinations.
Took a charter to the 2003 ISU @ Northern Illinois game
ISU was eventually run over by N. Illinois
It was literally a high school stadium
walking in we passed what looked like a high school lunchroom under the stands
Before and after the game, encountered many douchebag classless lowlife Dekalb people in the parking lot
Did I mention ISU LOST???
please tell us why these road games are amazing. I'm pretty sure it's to appease Matt Campbell and his MAC roots
It's fking idiotic actually Jamie Polllard. Not sure why we still do this
ps, ISU is traveling to ARKANSAS STATE in the future .... good gawd
We played @Akron in 2017.I think it has been widely covered in Podcasts why we play these games on occasion. If I remember correctly, it is a financial decision. As a fan, I would prefer we play all our non conference games at the Jack and I am sure Matt Campbell would too. In fact, I think this is the first MAC road game under Matt, so I doubt it is to appease him. I don't think anyone feels these road games are amazing. This game on the road actually sucks, but it is what it is at this point. I agree that Northern Illinois sucked. Toledo was only slightly better. We lost both of those games before Campbell was our coach. Ohio is a much nicer campus and stadium in my opinion, but it still really makes you appreciate what we have in Ames because of the size. I seems that you have forgotten that Jamie and Matt had a lot to do with what we have in Ames. I'm sure teams back in the Big 8 days or early Big 12 days thought a trip to Ames was like going to a MAC school.
Yep. And there's more to come as wellWe played @Akron in 2017.
I appreciate your sensible response. I will always believe that paying a team for a 7th home game is far more beneficial short and long term, than what we're doing. Borrow the freaking money if we have to.I think it has been widely covered in Podcasts why we play these games on occasion. If I remember correctly, it is a financial decision. I think it's cool, if you don't like it then just don't watch. In all due respect you should hate going to these destinations because ISU should never be going to these destinations.

ISU fans are cheap and don't donate enough to not go to MAC schools. In all due respect you should hate going to these destinations because ISU should never be going to these destinations.

Forgot about that game. Pretty historic game considering we changed our whole defensive scheme after that game. I didn’t attend, but their facilities looked bad on TV like Northern Illinois. We played @Akron in 2017.
That's an absolutely idiotic take. Ames is not nuetral. Also, lot's of Power 5 teams are on the road at G5 teams and exposure in Ohio where we do recruit relatively often isn't terrible. Sit back and stop your ********, if we lose this game we won't likely have any success in the Big12 this year at home or away so what's your worry. Why I hate these games w/ a passion.
~There is ZERO residual net value playing a MAC team on the road
~ Why spend $$ to travel to a 18,000 attended game?
~ There is ZERO national appeal
~ Losing a devastating possibility......We're 3-pt favorites?
~ Recruiting a 3-star while in Ohio worth this?
~ Lost $revenue for the city of Ames, for the university
~ Giving up a home game @Trice for a MAC away game, makes ZERO sense
memo to Jamie:
1) Pay$$ the g#d-damn MAC team to play in Ames--
-We should NEVER have a home & home series w/ the MAC or any other non P5 school
2) Seven home games in Ames helps recruiting
3) Start acting like a P5 team. good lord..
I loathe Iowa, but I respect their arrogance in this.
They ALWAYS have 7 home games....and would never stoop so low to travel to Athens, Ohio
In fact, Iowa not only schedules 7 home games annually, they have (2) more I consider 'neutral' sites this season:
Ames--via proximity and recent success
Wrigley Field vs N/Western.
In 2023, Iowa has 7 home games, 2 neutral site games, and only THREE legitimate road games
Pay the fking teams to come to Ames, Jamie
the end
I don't know, sounds like you're still hurt about the Northern Illinois trip more than anything.I appreciate your sensible response. I will always believe that paying a team for a 7th home game is far more beneficial short and long term, than what we're doing. Borrow the freaking money if we have to.
The 2003 North Illinois fiasco had a negative net benefit. less than zero.
Tomorrow, while the team to the East will have most Iowan's and in-state recruits glued to their crappy game at Kinnick, we're floundering in Athens, OH. A 40-pt win out there won't change my mind
I was actually at the game, it was a lot nicer than you'd expect. They had a ton of bathrooms so no lines. Plus there was a large group of ISU fans plus the band.Forgot about that game. Pretty historic game considering we changed our whole defensive scheme after that game. I didn’t attend, but their facilities looked bad on TV like Northern Illinois.
if teams like Alabama, Georgia, etc. did these types of games.
That hardly counts though. I'm pretty sure it was a 2 for 1 or even a 3 for 1 deal. Plus that game is at Raymond James Stadium which will easily be at least 50/50 fan split since USF fans don't show upAlabama is playing at South Florida tomorrow.
I really wanted to do this trip but month old baby and early harvest nuked it
