A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, the French captured an English colonel. They took him to their headquarters, and the French general began to question him. Finally, as an afterthought, the French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?" In his bland English way, the officer informed the general that the reason English officers wear red coats is if they are shot the blood won't show, and the men they are leading won't panic. And that is why, from that day to this, all French Army officers wear brown pants.

Captain: I said turn left.
Steersman:How far left?
Captain: Centric left.
Steersman: I thought you meant socialistic left.
Captain: Well the good news is Tag, they are it.
Steersman: I was just having a bad hair day.
Captain: We better call Gordon Brown and tell him we rasily managed to find the silent French sub without much effort. They were going three knots and we heard their snoring over the comm channel.

You all forget the French seemed to have a pretty good army a when Napoleon was around.

I read an article recently about how some US and British soilders in Aftganastan really gave the French high marks for their fighting ability.

its not the soldiers... its the leaders that like the white flag.

-keep.

If they hadn't supported us 230 years ago, they'd probably still be a monarchy and we might be English subjects!

Even so, the jokes are funny!

You can indeed thank the French for our flag not being the Union Jack.

The free French in WWII were some of the best soldiers in the war.

And the Foreign Legion are incredible fighters. It's not the soldiers, it's the generals and the politicians.

Good point iccyfan, we needed the French to gain our independence from Great Britain and plenty of French soldiers gave their lives for our freedom then and in the world wars. LeBeau was also a warrior on Hogan's Heroes.

No doubt! Frenchman Louis Lebeau was a critical part of Colonel Robert Hogan's underground spy organization that ran out of German POW camp Stalag 13. As we all know, this organization was crucial in turning WWII in favor of the Allies...

Their navy turned the tide, especially in keeping Cornwallis from being able to evacuate Yorktown. They were doubly screwed for the assistance they provided us. First, they nearly bankrupted their government, leaving it susceptible to revolution. Second, the newly formed American democracy appeared desirable to the French people. I love the History channel!

Even so, while the Monarchy met a bloody end, they're better off for it and we've been saving their butts ever since (WWI & WWII). Vietnam was also their problem until we took it on, so we have that to despise them for...

Keep the jokes comin'...

I was reading a book recently where the author, a former U.S. Army Ranger, took the standpoint that any military involvement with the French since the Revolutionary War has been to our detriment.

And don't forget that Vietnam was cleaning up their mess.
