apparently I didn't clearly state the desired guidelines in which to form your list. My bad.

Now, back to the lists...

Kantril Horton and Jacy Holloway just need to be 2nd team. These guys were HUGE on their teams. Injure either one of these guys their senior seasons and we were toast.

Maybe this has been done before, but I'm bored.

Please post your lineup of the best ISU players from all era's (that you can remember). Since I very vaguely remember players like Grayer and Rhodes, but don't recall their style of play, I won't include them in my team. Feel free to do so in yours... although that may date you.

So beginning in the early/ mid nineties my team goes as follows:

Coach: Heeeere's Johnny!!!

C: Kelvin Cato
PF: Marcus Fizer
SG: Fred Hoiberg
SG: Dedric Willoughby
PG: Jamal Tinsley

Bench:
Jackson Vroman
Will Blaylock
Justus Thigpen
Jared Homan
Curtis Stinson

Roland Rocket?
Hopefully we can add Harrison Barnes to that list in a few years.

Great thread! It was hard for me to come up with all of the players who could have merited a spot on this "Dream Team".

Anyway, I grew up in Ames in the '80's going to games at Hilton, so my list consists of players I either watched growing up or saw on tv when I moved out of Iowa. I broke it down by giving out "scholarships" for 13 guys and then added 3 "walk-on" spots for guys I thought deserved a spot.

Starting five;

C - Cato....great defensive presence, don't really need much offense out of him considering who else is on the team.
PF - Fizer...enough said
SF - Grayer.....just a ridicoulously talented player. Averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds a game his senior season
SG - Hoiberg
PG - Jamaal Tinsley gets the slight nod over Hornacek, if nothing else because I think he is a better athlete.

Bench;

C; Victor Alexander

Finishing the post from above...

Bench;

C; Loren Meyer...only a train accident prevented him from having a MONSTER junior season

PF;

Tom Schafer...could be a 3 as well, but very good player for us. He hit a buzzer beater back in the day to beat a Top 10 Oklahoma team in Hilton one year.

Jackson Vroman....quintessential scrapper and rebounder

SF;

Barry Stephens...May God rest his soul

SG;

Dedric Willoughby....LOVE Willoughby, I had the chance to meet him once and a heck of a nice guy, great shooter too.

Jake Sullivan....designated long-range shooter

PG;

Hornacek

Walk-ons;

PG; Gary Thompkins...gets the slight edge over Blaylock. He missed 7 games his senior season due to pneumonia or something like that, and not coincidentally we had a seven-game losing streak that really hurt our season that year at the mid-point.

SF; Elmer Robinson...don't really know if he belongs here or not, but he was a student of my dad's back in the day, and he was a great athlete. My dad just informed me he was drafted by the Yankees right out of high school.

PF/C...Jared Homan

High honorable mention....Blaylock, Stinson, Justis Thigpen, Ron Bayless, Mike Born, Kantrail Horton, Jacy Holloway.

Just to add a thought....this team above would absolutely have contended for a national championship.

It's great to see Fred Hoiberg's name on here so much. I was in English 105 with him our freshman year and got to know him on a personal level...GREAT guy with an incredible personlity...and so down to earth and approachable. Man does he have a gift in his shooting ability!

Also got to hang around Loren Meyer and Julius Mikalik (sp?) at different times...both were a lot of fun to talk to and fun to watch on the court. Man do I miss those days!

I don't know how you could leave Kenny Pratt off this list. As long as it is just for basketball play not all around citizenship

I realize you are almost all young guys on this site, but if anyone here was around in the 70's there was a guy named Hercle "Poison" Ivy, (from St. Louis if I remember right), that was an absolutely unstoppable scorer when he was feeling it back in those days. Had the huge Afro...lol. He was a hell of a shooter. Not worth a lick on defense, of course.

I do remember Herle Ivy and Dean Uthoff. Uthoff was a man on the boards. Hercle could really get to the basket. I miss the old days at the top of old section 22.
