Who honestly thinks Lane Danielson is one of our best WR's?!?! No way

I could probably name 10 better....in fact I will

Todd Blythe
JJ Moses
Luther Blue
Ike Harris
Otto Stowe
Tracy Henderson
Damion Groce
Tyrone Watley

Ok that is only 8. But you gotta see the differences in style of play from when some of those guys played and when Lane Danielson played. We threw the ball twice as much as thus some of his stats

Revising your list:

Otto Stowe
Ike Harris
Todd Blythe
Luther Blue
Tracy Henderson
JJ Moses
Lane Danielson
Damion Groce
Tyrone Watley

Lane was an interesting combination of a lot of different styles. Tough, Intelligent, somewhat speedy. Not a great possession receiver, yet he could still be counted on to make a difficult catch. Certainly not a finesse guy. He probably wouldn't have been as much of a threat had it not been for Jack Whitver being the possession guy.

OFFENSE
WR - Danielson, Todd Doxson

Todd Doxzon was actually a 4 year starter at Quarterback (1993-1996 seasons). It was his tryout with...I think it was the New York Giants... at Wide reciever that ultimately landed him a job in the NFL abck at his QB position. His 40 time of 4.1 seconds flat was timed twice. He played at least one season listed as the second string QB backup to Dan Marino. Because of Marino's durability, he never saw a snap in a NFL pro regular season game.

It is MY contention that Troy Davis would not have been as successful as he was without:
1. Patrick Agufa, an offensive lineman with an exceptionally long and stocky body and short legs that allowed him to leverage just about anyone enough so that he could create a seam for Troy, OR pile in with Troy and help him drive the pile an extra 5 yards.
2a. The seldom used threat of speed from Todd Doxzon (he was known to be fast, but no one in the public knew about the 4.1 second 40 until the NFL scouts timed him).
2b. though Todd Doxzon was signed to ISU as a wishbone QB, he occaisionally had shown some accuracy passing.

OFFENSE

QB - Seneca
RB - Troy Davis, Darren Davis
FB - Kock
WR - Blythe, JJ Moses
WR - Danielson, Todd Doxson
TE - Mike Banks
OT - Tim Kohn
OG - Keith Sims
C - Ben Bruns
OG - Oliver Ross
OT - Bruce Reimers
K - Ty Stewart

I suppose we could look at only success at Iowa State instead of success in the Pros.

However, looking at Pro Stats/success:
QB - David Archer, then Sage then Seneca (archer leads due to number of starts and total yards, though Sage has probably had more success and will likely surpass Archer's yards this year).
RB (fullback, halfback, tailback) - Tony Baker, Tom Watkins, Mike Strachan, Dwayne Crutchfield then Troy Davis (although, this does not count Davis's yards in the CFL)
WR - Jim Doran, Ike Harris, Hal Crisler, Otto Stowe
TE - Keith Krepfle, Pat Curran, Al Dixon, Dan Johnson

Mike Stensrud is a no brainer, though where you put him (offense or defense) depends on if you're looking at Pros or ISU.

Most of us know of the stature of Matt Blair. I think Stensrud and Krepfle are nearly as great.

Alex Espinosa should be in the discussion. Dwayne Crutchfield and Blaise Bryant after the davis boys. The best reciever I have ever seen in an Iowa State uniform is Tracy Henderson.

Special shout out to Larry Crawford who roamed the sidelines in the wild days of the CFL and had incredible longevity in a tough time for defenses back then.

I KNOW that Todd Doxson was a quarterback and what... 3 or 4 year starter at ISU... however, I thought he could have been a pretty good wideout due to his limited success in the NFL at the position.

Meyer shouldn't be on the list, Rosenfels was better. Blythe and Danielson are starting recievers. Moser, Hobbs, and Paris are all in the backfield. Those guys weren't the most talented but they worked there butts off day in and day out.

Better have Marcus Robertson back there at DB.

IMHO - Alex Espinosa - big arm, no accuracy.

If Blaise Bryant would have had a second season as big as his first, then I would group him with the Crutchfield. The Hype leading into his Senior season was certainly worthy of being better than Crutchfield ever was.

OK, I can be talked into moving Henderson up on the receiver's list.

No disrespect meant. Its just that I've seen Todd Doxzon listed at Wide Receiver a number of times when as far as I know, he never played the position except for the XFL. Plus, they always seem to change the z in his name to an s.

I've always looked at this guy as kind of an enigma. Probably a few good trivia questions here.

DON CELONI??? WHO DAT! Forgive my ignorance but I don't recognize that name. Info please.

I also question if Dickie Barker (1921) could hold up at guard. Afterall, in today's game he would be playing alongside 300+ pounders. Even Stan Campbell would probably need to switch positions.

Lets see, Dexter Green...as for QB, I would probably take Seneca for the versatility...As for some other picks at QB that I've heard from my era. Archer is OK. Espinoza is laughable...poor decision making. Oberg had a good senior season but its probably 10th to 12th best.

I'd eat my shorts if Todd Doxon EVER ran a 4.1. He was fast for sure, but the fastest guys in the NFL draft hardly ever run under 4.3. Hayward-Bay was a top 10 pick because he ran a 4.3. I'm betting someone was a little quick on the stopwatch with Doxon.

celoni played for stapelton in the early 60's. larry vanderheyden was a star lineman for the dirty 30 and would be a top selection for an outstanding lineman at isu.celoni when he first became elgible for the varsity was quite a blowhard that he was going to beat vanderheyden out of his starting assignment on the offensive lne.larry v. got wind of celoni's bragging remerks and if i remember right vanderheyden literallly kicked celoni's arse in a very good arse kicking by larry v. over windbag celoni.

bret meyer was a ton better than most will give him credit for.

He is like top 5 all time big 12 passing yards

He also played on some bad teams and had two seasons with coaches that were either leaving or just coming...

He led us to two good bowl games and nearly two division titles

and he started all 4 years

Dont give the argument that he didn't improve from freshman to senior because i guarentee you he did, but the players around him were young and the coaching staff was even younger...
