Alamo Bowl to replace Big Ten with Pac 10?

He brings up a good point - with the Cotton Bowl moving to the new Cowboys stadium, it's logical to think that in the not-too-distant future it could become a BCS bowl.

Anything that takes a B10 team out of a "prestigious" bowl game is fine by me.

I find it hard to believe the Big Ten would simply lose a bowl tie in, and a decent one at that. I could see them ending up in a bowl like the Holiday or even the Cotton (if it doesn't become a BCS bowl) when the lineup changes are complete.

Alamo's a nice bowl for sure, but "prestigious"? It was basically where the Big 10 team that really, really wanted an Outback bid but didn't get it ended up. I'd be willing to bet the Big 10 finds a suitable replacement for its #4 team. I think it's a shame to lose the only Big 10/Big 12 matchup, makes zero sense for the two conferences to not have at least one bowl in which they face off every year.

I have a hard time believing the Alamo will bail on the Big 10/Big 12. that bowl has done very well in sales in the seats and 6 of ESPN's top 20 rated football games ever have been Alamo bowls, including a 6.0 rating for the 2006 Alamo bowl.

But there is going to be some realignment...and it makes me wonder if the Alamo already knows where the Big Ten is leading. I think the Big Ten and Holiday would be good...I think the Cap One/Champs are in trouble due to poor facilities. The Cotton almost has to be a BCS game in the future.

They play each other in the Insight Bowl as well.

I could see this bowl getting bumped up in both leagues...Holiday might not be tied with B12/Pac10 any longer...insight increases its payout, the Champs and Alamo go away for Big Ten, and the league sends its #3 or #4 team to the Insight to replace the Alamo

I wouldn't trade the Holiday for the Alamo. If that's what ends up happening, the Big 11 is getting over.

Actually, for the better part of this decade, the Alamo Bowl has a more prestigious feel to it than the Holiday Bowl does. Pretty much everyone knows the Alamo Bowl has happened. The Holiday Bowl has largely turned into an afterthought. And, if the Alamo Bowl begins paying more than the Holiday, then go with the Alamo Bowl.

I love the Holiday, but I would prefer the Big 10 keeps the Alamo. Not sure I would make that trade.

I'm not sure the Holiday Bowl would want the Big 10. The Holiday is known for its shootout, high scoring games. I don't think adding a Wisconsin or Michigan State would fit the criteria.

I would prefer that the conference tie-ins to bowl games were eliminated. Then take all the bowl games, and have them offer up the bowl payouts. Go from the highest payout to the lowest payout. You could then have a live "draft" on tv with the bowl reps picking their games from all elligible teams and get new and unique matchups every year. As opposed to the same 2-3 teams going to the same 2-3 bowl games every year.

I would be for that. It more resembles the old system. And being an Iowa fan, I think the Hawks would benefit from a system like this given their traveling reputation. Iowa State travels well, too.

Here's the thing, does the Big 10 really want another one of it's schools to have to go out west to play a bowl game? At least if the game is in Texas, it's easier/closer travel and has more of a regional feel to it.

Isn't the Cotton bowl the only non BCS Big XII tie in bowl that is played on New Years day? This will be awesome, we'll have no New years day bowls that aren't BCS and the big 10 will probably manage to fill that spot by getting their 6-6 team to get a New Years day bowl.

I know, anymore it doesn't mean nearly what it used to, to play on New Years day, but honestly, it's a comment I hear all the time from Hawkeye fans. "We've played in X New Years Day Bowls." As much as I think the Cotton Bowl deserves BCS status, I'd hate to give up a true New Years Day Bowl.

So what happens if USC wears their home jerseys when we play them in the Alamo bowl?

I'd get very confused

Alamo is a New Years bowl beginning this year.
