Is he a top 10 qb? absolutely. Anything beyond that is wait and see.

I don't know who you could put ahead of him for him to not be at least top 5. 3 weeks in isn't a lot of data so if you were to go off the top 5 QB's last year you would have......

Manning
Brees
Favre
Rodgers
Brady

in no order

I'll bite...I take Phillip Rivers from last year all day over Farve from last year. Your Vikes at least make the Superbowl with Rivers.

Come on bud! Did you watch Favre last year? He was one of the best QB in the league!

QB rating of 107. 33TD's 7 INT's. He was fantastic. I don't think anybody else could have played any better than he did last year

I think Rodgers play the last two years is making clear why the Packers were no longer willing to play Brett Favre's mindgames (will he/won't he come back). Rodgers right now is clearly better than Favre is right now, and any idiot that says that Favre would have found a way to win that game last night is clearly, well, an idiot.

I agree...but nobody is saying that.

Question is.....can AR sustain greatness over 5 years/10 years/20 years like Favre. It will be interesting to see.

The great difference between Favre's great years and AR prime now is that Favre had Holmgren.

AR is saddled with one of the terrible GM/Coaches in the game. IMO.

I don't think Rodgers is CLEARLY better than Favre right now. Last year Favre edged him out. This year Favre has struggled through the first 3, once again just 3 games!, due to injuries all around him and nobody to throw to. As bad as the Packers Oline is, the Vikings pass blocking has been just as bad. At least Rodgers has WR's to throw to.

As for best QB's in 2009 it was Brees, Favre, and Rodgers. They were the top QB ratings

Farve was 2nd last year in QB rating, Rivers 3rd. Farve's RB was Adrian Peterson, Rivers had a hurt LT and Darren Sproles. Farve played great, but I would rather have Rivers.

The Vikings' out-of-division schedule was also pathetic last year - Cleveland, San Francisco, St. Louis, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Arizona, Cincinnati, Carolina, and the Giants. 3 playoff teams and 3 of the absolute worst teams in the NFL last year. Not to mention getting to play the Lions twice. Any decent QB would have put up impressive numbers with that schedule and the talent surrounding him, so yes, even Rivers would have looked like a world beater if he played with the Vikings last year.

Do you know who is in Rivers conference? Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders. Tell me which of those teams were good last year. None. Look at the entire schedule for the Chargers and tell me if it was any good.

By the way I love Rivers. Well wait, he is a jerk. But a great football player that wins

I don't think it mattered who was playing QB from the Packers last night...they made waaay too many crucial mistakes to win that game. Even as a fan of GB, I wouldn't quite put A-Rodge at the top of the QB list...but I think he will be there in a few years without a doubt.

Yes, I am a Vikings homer, but all bias aside, there are very few reasonable people who would have taken Rivers over Favre last year. Very few. One could argue that Favre's performance was an anomaly, but he was consistent and very good all year long.

I would take Rivers over Favre, if I'm considering the long term, knowing this is Favre's last year. But if we're comparing just last year, there's very little room for debate, honestly.

1) Why is that a question? Even at this point the decision has been a huge win for the Packers. If they would have kept Favre, maybe they would be at the same level they are now, but they would no longer have a QB waiting in the wings. Every year he plays at a pro bowl level from here on out is icing on the cake.

2) What's your basis on Thompson and McCarthy? The biggest thing that bothers me about McCarthy is the continued lack of discipline with penalties, but other than that he's been solid. For Thompson, you do realize that the Packers roster is made up of 66% players that he drafted? That's most in the league, and the talented core of them is pretty dang young.

I'd definitely be willing to do a straight up trade: Childress for McCarthy! In fact, you can just have Chilly for free!

I am still mad at McCarthy for not running the ball more in the NFC title game 3 years back. Otherwise I think he is a very solid head coach

I don't think it was an anomaly, but I think he was in a very good situation. Great defense, great RB, good recievers, and a solid O-Line. A QB, such as Rivers, would have had similar success with those things in place. In fact Rivers did have similar numbers dispite having all of those things.

Nobody knew much of Shiancoe. Rice had been a disappointment through 2 seasons. Harvin was a rookie. And it was Favre's 1st year there.

I think Rivers had better targets to throw to. Gates is the best TE in the league. Vincent Jackson is a stud. Floyd, Nannaee, LT is a great RB out of the backfield and so is sproles. Unlike AP who can't catch a cold

In the regular season. Then when the playoffs came, it was the same old Favre.

I agree San Diego's targets are a little better, but don't forget about Chester Taylor catching the ball out of the backfield. It didn't matter that AP isn't a pass catcher.

SD had an average to below average Defense. O-Line somewhat solid, but the running game was not very good with LT slowed.
