The problem is accountability. Refs have little to no accountability and are put on a pedestal as untouchable. Coaches don't dare complain about them are the coach gets fined/suspended. Until a conference actually makes their officials accountable nothing is going to change.

I think officiating should have a promotion/demotion similar to soccer. All officials should be graded on a game by game basis using these stats collected and evaluated by and outside company:
-Missed calls
-Missed calls in critical game moments
-% Missed calls
-Wrong calls
-Wrong calls in critical game moments
-% Wrong calls
-% of impact on game because of errors
- general incompetence coefficient
Then an equation can can be created by people much smarter than myself to boil it down to a single number which tells us how good/consistent each official is. Then there is a running PUBLIC leader board and if their number falls into a predetermined bad range they are relegated to the Go5 or FCS (with naturally lower pay) and the top official from those 2 is promoted. At the end of the season the bottom 5ish officials will be relegated and top 5ish promoted. This would insure that we are getting the best most consistent Refs

If a ref makes a bad call, after the game they have to wear the fart mask from jackass with Mark Mangino farting into it.

In all seriousness, I think not only should the head Referee be made available after the game to answer questions from the media, but their mics should always be live and made audible for the TV audience to hear what is being discussed, both when they huddle up and talk and also during reviews.

There should also be a neutral panel that reviews each game and if there are X amount of incorrect/missed calls, then that ref crew is suspended the next week. Get suspended more than twice each season? Lose your ref status and sit out the rest of the year and head your butt back to ref school before you can get back on the field.

Its really the only way to hold them accountable and keep them as honest as possible.

Yes, I’ve put too much thought into this.
I can dream, right?
I like this idea, but based on what I see from week to week, there may not be any crews left to officiate!
