You can put me under the Samsung column. I don't have anything against the others, but I can testify that my 40" 1080p Samsung gets the job done.

I know I pushed the Vizio but Samsungs do rock. It depends on your budget.

I also have a 42" LG, and have been very pleased with it. LG's tend to be more affordable than the bigger name brands, too.

I just bought the same this weekend. 42" LG 720p LCD. Considering the 4 yr. warranty, I think I got a pretty good deal ($1100).

The maker of Olevia brand tv's is in bankruptcy (Syntax-Brillian). You may want to consider how that affects your warranty before buying that particular brand.

Vizio is manufactured by Sony, Samsung and others so they are ok as long as the manufacturing contracts with the other companies stay in place.

I have a 37" Vizio, and love it. I originally bought a Samsung, but took it back for the Vizio. Saved me $400 and I never looked back.

If you're looking for cheaper models (aka - not the "big names"), I like the Olevias better than the Vizios.

Agreed. I have a 747i ... newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and you'll get an awesome price (usually)

It's an amazing set.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Went to American and purchased a 40" Samsung 650 bundled with Samsung surround sound for $1600.

I've actually done a lot of research on this subject. If you aren't looking for a bargain, everything I've seen says go Samsung. There are other brands as well, Sharp and Sony get pretty decent marks. A lot of it depends on your budget as well as what sources you are watching. Blue Ray, Xbox360 and PS3 and now some OD stuff are offering 1080p. Most networks are still, and probably going to stay that way for a while, 1080i or 720p. So, what are you using it for. You could always save some money by going 720p. That's what I did for my video game TV actually. I just didn't have the cash to throw at a TV I use just for video games.

Anyways, if this is going to be your main TV. I'd spend a few more bucks on the Samsung. In the end, I can't imagine you'd be dissatisfied with it.
