Not even close to what Northeast Ohio gets every winter but I am ok with that. I got away from that snow ****. You guys would die if you got as much snow as we did. You guys call 15inches Snowmageddon for some reason

Mason City averages 41.2 inches a year. Akron averages 47.4.

What are the chances of a repeat of the April 1973 snowstorm? (I know. 1973 was before many of you were born.)

I believe the last two mild winters have spoiled Iowa, and now we tend to freak out when winter weather hits. Quite reactionary we have become, when usual conditions hit us.

I think you've got both. People spoiled from the last 2 winters, and then people who think the really bad winters we had before that were 'typical' iowa winters.

Average snowfall in des moines is about 33 inches. The other winter it was about 69".

In fact, 3 of the top 10 snowiest winters were in the last decade, so that might also play into people thinking we get a ton of snow here.

If I just wanted to know the forecast a day or two before the event, I could go to a weather site then. I like getting a behind the curtain look at the modeling and forecasting that goes on leading up to a storm. These threads are fun.

I love these threads too. I especially enjoy the amateur attempts at forecasting using model outputs. It reminds me of my 2 year old that is trying to read books on her own now. She has no clue how to read, but she tries real hard. It's pretty cute.

Doesn't look like this system has good moisture return, pretty weak precipitable water values heading north from the GoM.

Agreed.

Really shows how CF becomes a one stop place for just about everything.

But what the hell, here's the 12z gfs model for today. If it moves south it could be something for us. Hopefully not, im ready for spring

Let's see, the early GFS model for the last storm showed me getting 20 inches, and it missed to the south of me. Same thing happens this time, I'm screwed. And it will happen, my boss will be in Arizona.

Weather threads are one of my favorite things about this site. For real, I love them. Read them all the time.
I don't even live there anymore and I still read em, keep up on friends and family weather.

2 weeks from now, it was 80 last year, and it was glorious.

Hmmm. Yeah, the 80's in March seemed nice. But, last year's imitation of Dallas gave us a massive drought, umpteen days over 100, and problems trying to keep anything outside alive. Personally I'm glad to have a more normal winter this year!
