For an ignorant gambler like me, how does that work? Does he put $2500 down now and will get 5k back whenever the ravens season is done?
Yeah they'll settle it after the regular season ends.

Even if the guy hedged, the packers ML was so big that a 500,000 bet would only win him over 80k.

Obviously still an insane profit, but imagine scrambling to try and find as much money to put down to hedge.

Yeah, depends on if it was for the week or for the season but whenever the bet is official he'll get paid. And like JP4CY alluded to, he won't fully double his money because of the juice. Assuming it's the standard -110 bet ($110 to win $100), he'll make $2,273 and then get his initial $2,500 bet back. So $4,773

Not exactly sure.
Yes. In that case the casino could be kind and just pay it now, but they won’t
Just making sure I had it right. With a deal like that it basically comes down to what you can afford to do without for 4-5 months. Otherwise I was wondering why he didn’t do 10k or 25k. I figured he had to live without the money for that long was the reason.

A Davante Adams TD tonight would've won me about $900 in two separate parlays. I'm sure this guy and I are feeling the same amount of disappointment ;)

Agreed for almost any normal person it would have been impossible to react that quick. I’d still probably try to scramble as much as I could together. I never like betting highly - money lines but in this case it’s a free roll

It was also limited by the fact I’m sure the guy figured the mistake would get caught before long so likely just took whatever cash he had and put it on that.

I wonder if the casino he placed the bet at would float him enough so That they’re guaranteed to be covered either way.

This isn’t worth a separate thread but at the poker tables this week a guy told me his buddy was in the Bally’s sports book getting his NFL bets in and was looking through props. He noticed that there was an O/U listed for Lamar Jackson touchdowns at 270. Obvious typo but he quickly put $2500 on the under. They immediately took the bet down but honored his bet

No way.

Think I saw somewhere this was a free 25 dollar bet, so he likely wouldn’t have even had a cash out option

Damn. I wonder what he would have been looking at if he had played the Pack as the last leg of the parlay.

Up thread someone said it was a free bet so it couldn't be hedged
He definitely could have and hopefully did hedge it. If it was a free bet, he probably couldn't have cashed it out early like you can do with some parlays

I get it there are a lot of stories in Vegas and I'm skeptical of everything but I sat next to this guy for a long time at a poker table and it didn’t seem like a brag. He didn’t even tell the table just me off to the side. It’s also not uncommon for a book to make a typo. Bellagio posted the time wrong on some Asian baseball games not long ago and lost $250k. Fan Duel has had a couple recent ones including giving a guy 750-1 on an nfl game. Most actually have some where in the fine print that they don’t have to honor obvious errors but they usually do

Damn. I wonder what he would have been looking at if he had played the Pack as the last leg of the parlay.

Something like $130k I think. 725k/5.25 (not sure exact odds he got)

Looks like the bettor cashed out. Ended up with $133,000. Additionally, he used a $25 promotional bet. So his skin the in the bet was nothing.

I'm glad he/she was able to get something out of the deal. I don't recall seeing a situation in the past where a hedge was so unworkable, but I guess that's what happens when the odds of everything are so far out of bounds.

Here's a lesson I'll never need to learn - don't make your last pick of a 16 leg parlay a +400 moneyline pick!
