Show me where I acted like it was a catastrophe.
Show me where I said you acted like it was a catastrophe??

You said he was 1000% committed to the highest offer and that has changed (what changed?) and with zero inside knowledge I think it’s a little rash to jump immediately to that conclusion.

Also, committing/decomitting isn’t new to the current state of college athletics. It’s been happening for decades. Kids decommit and commit to us and no one says a word.

ISU never announced the commit, maybe this was one of those conditional offers, kid got excited, threw an edit on his socials announcing a commitment to an offer the school wasn't ready to take a commitment for yet...

Do they announce commits now or just people who signed? I thought it was just when ink hit paper

Recruiting had become a total joke. It’s pointless to even pay attention to it anymore.
Buddy…committing and de committing has been going on for decades. I promise you nothing has fundamentally changed in that regard especially when it comes to 16-18 yr olds.

One of the changes that need to be made is that early commitments actually mean that the kid is committed. And you do that with contracts.

If they're going to be making money then they have to grow up. That's because when one kid says he's going to a school...let's say it's a point guard...then the second point guard that the school might want drops them and commits somewhere else. Then when the first kid pulls his commitment then the school has to go to their third choice for their point guard.

The inmates are running the asylum.

The contracts already exist - the NLI that is signed on national signing day (or sometime after). It's better to view commitments as the leader for the kid to sign with on signing day. Some will completely shut down all recruiting after 'committing', others will still listen as others reach out.

I don't think it's something that is broken enough to require fixing given all of the other challenges to college athletics that seem more pressing...

Kids committing and then decommitting also isn't new. Every negative thing gets blamed on NIL now like it wasn't happening before.

Let's just change the term to more accurately describe what it is.

Commit means something fairly specific in the language.

Maybe announce "Athlete Z has indicated the presence of a vague notion that he may consider attending ISU if nothing better comes along. Vague notion subject to cancellation by coaching staff if a better player becomes available."

I am pretty sure no one is getting money until they get to campus.

Isn’t that kind of how jobs work?

I’ve hired people, told them their salary, agreed on start date and before their first day they have changed their mind whether that be stay with their current company for more money or gotten an offer they’d prefer taking, etc.

Can’t believe there has been this much hand wringing over a kid who would be our lowest recruit under TJ and was committed for 20 days.

Or something that has literally been happening since the dawn of recruiting.

Everytime we get a decommitment some users act like it’s the first time it’s ever happened in the history of collegiate athletics.
