Younger will be a heavy favorite next year so yea he may score some points. AE will contend at any weight he goes.

I get why you are down on this team but next years won’t look anything like next years team. Yes, we will be hitting the portal hard. Nothing is for sure but can we at least wait until August before starting the doom & gloom for next year. One would hope the injury bug will not hit us nearly as bad next year and allow ISU to put out the top 10 individuals next year.

Yonger will be the most talented but he’s been hurt at two NCAAs and now the medical. Not a great track record.

i think hes talking about the Larkins from ASU. They might be looking for better training partners givn the recent state of ASU wrestling and we recruited the younger one hard
Larkins would be like Teemer/Parco. They have both had hip and knee surgeries and haven’t been healthy in over a year.

At this point I don’t care who we bring in. This staff has had 1 guy wrestle above seed in the past 4 years and it’s David Carr. He’s their only guy that hit the top of the podium and I think he could have done it anywhere. We are scoring points at an Utah Valley level, and only two wrestlers wrestled at seed this year, the Frost brothers. And one was heavily favored at the beginning of the year and fell apart late:

Honestly I’m ready for a new staff. This one has underperformed at every tournament or barely met expectations. There are never good surprises just bad ones and injuries. Get em out.

Definitely have had more than one guy wrestle above seed. We had more than one this year let alone the past 4. We got a team trophy last year... Dresser has been national coach of the year, you don't get either by underpreforming.

What is hard for me is trying to balance the thoughts of:

1. We had a ton of bad luck this year and have a laundry list of studs who couldn’t wrestle due to injury. The staff has earned it just as recent as last year, so definitely not calling for changes there (maybe just a hard look at training tendencies?) The guys generally wrestled to seed (or above for JFrost and Riggins) just didn’t have the horses.

I am mixing that point with:

2. When is the last time you saw a school like Ohio St, Michigan, Nebraska, (not even mentioning PSU, Iowa, Okie State) etc outside of the top 25 in points? It’s a bad look even though those of us know who is on the shelf.

Fans are frustrated, but I can’t even imagine what the guys in that room feel like.

This is a very good and nuanced take. I agree. Clearly this was a down year, but how far down is pretty bad. We can rip Iowa all we want but they had a defending finalist and a 4 time AA that did not place for them this year and they’re still going to bring home a trophy.

There are some big time horses in the stables here, so we shouldn’t overreact to one down year. The trajectory is clearly up even if this was a bump in the road. Let the coaches make their moves this offseason and then see how next year goes with 2 Frosts, Paniro, Echemendia, Bastida, a top recruit in Castillo, etc. I’d assume we’re back in the top 10 and in the hunt for top 5 depending on what moves are made and who is brought in.

Iowa with all of their spending and roster buying is finishing in the same spot we did just last year. We were whatever injury happened to Yonger, that close to a second place finish last year. We have had an insane amount of bad luck this year with injuries. Why would we want to replace the staff?
To be fair, Iowa has 3 finalists tonight and also had injuries to both of their other high end transfers.

But Also, screw em !!

Ridiculous. Look at where we were under KJ and they got us to 4th last year. Rough year for a lot of reasons this year and no reason to burn it down.

I don’t think Parco has an injury history. It was a fluke injury that took him out.

Everything will be FINE. This is a top notch staff who knows how to win at the highest level. Our lineup could have FOUR AAs in it, (not counting Casey), and off the top of my head only PSU Iowa and Nebraska can say that??? And those are trophy teams this year. We aren’t that far removed from the KJ era, so remember how far we’ve come. Keep the faith, buy your season tickets, open up the checkbooks and cheer your asses off. It’s a great time to be a Cyclone

I was one of those who was shocked by Casey's transfer. I thought he'd be the face and leader of our team the next couple years. Now, I think we'll be fine. But I'm also prepared for more surprises. Almost nobody would surprise me if they transfer.

IMO, the guys we CAN'T lose are the Frosts and Pnut. I trust our staff to make some hard decisions beginning as soon as tomorrow. Next year will be better. We're still a top 4-10 program. I'm going to enjoy the ride, knowing the path to success isn't a straight line.

I loyally sat in Hilton , cut in two pieces by a curtain and supported each and every athlete that stepped on the mat. This is not the same and I am nowhere near panic . We had a crappy year for several reasons including a ton of injuries. Crappy years happen . I trust the coaches and athletes to learn from this year and move forward while they navigate the new roster limits transfer portal and nil. This off season could be a wild ride but I am here for it and all in.

I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that this staff isn’t getting the improvement we should be seeing. We’re mostly wrestling the same instead of making real progress. The problem isn’t just results—it’s the way we’re training. Instead of constantly going live, we need to focus on scrambles, technique, and evolving with the sport.

Other programs are adapting, and we’re falling behind because our coaches aren’t making the necessary adjustments. The talent is there, but the development isn’t, and that’s on the staff.
