I think the Caliendo thought is not going to beat Messenbrink at 165, so if he wants a title, needs to go 157. Could just be speculation also
I would imagine that is the only reason Caliendo would even consider it. He's 0-6 now against Mesenbrink, just don't him making a jump and winning 165 next year.

That said... best I can tell, I can't find anything where Caliendo has wrestled below 160lb since the fall of 2019. By the time the season rolls around it'll have been 6 years since he's been down to 157. Seems crazy that he'd be able to do that effectively.

I realize he’s 0-6 but the last 2 matches I feel like Caliendo really closed the gap. Just never know look what WH did this year at HWT. MC is on the evil East side of the state but I’m a fan. Seems like a real good kid.
I mean, if the choice is between moving weight classes or pulling off an all time upset, you're probably picking moving weights if it's feasible. The last two matches were closer, but I don't feel like Mesenbrink was ever in any danger of losing.

Iowa offered more than us but he wanted to be a Clone.

That's a Mineo "report." Might be true, but he says that about basically everyone and it is obviously to eff with Iowa fans, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. He was recently exposed (again) by the Rutgers kid who's transferring to Iowa. His burner account he's been using to support himself was also exposed. I also put this right up there with your claim that Iowa is broke.

Gabe Arnold would not be happy about that.

Why? Is there a history there? Because if he goes to Iowa they will be two weights apart.

I’ve heard the same thing. I’ve also heard 174 is a really tough cut for Arnold.

He prepared all last offseason for 184 so an in-season cut to 174 (as some were hoping he would do) was going to be tough. He didn't have much to cut for 184 even after preparing all offseason. If he's already decided to go 174 there isn't likely to be much of an issue come November.

I like Naak at 197.

I don't like him much of anywhere.

I feel like Caliendo and kennedy could regress if this happens. Kennedy looks to have grown into 174 nicely

Kennedy would be fine but it feels like a reach for Caliendo. He's closed the gap on Mess but he's still unlikely to touch him, IMHO.

Caliendo was one td away in the B1G finals.

I think Messenbrink is beatable. Let’s not call it an all time upset yet. Maybe Messenbrink runs the table the next 2 years in dominant fashion.

Watch out for Dee Lockett.

I agree that Messenbrink is beatable. He has a great gas tank for sure. He is however a little sloppy in his technique. Better this year for sure but still there.

Maybe I’m over estimating him, but I think the most likely thing to happen is Mesenbrink going undefeated the next two years again. I think he’s that good and still improving.

The B1G finals was close, but then not all that close on NCAA finals. Caliendo has at least figured out that he has to stall early because his gas tank cannot hold up for 7 minutes of wrestling against Mesenbrink.

I think it’s possible Messenbrink runs the table, but more so because of the makeup of the weight than his skill. Relative lack of talent at 165. Don’t think he would have been top 3 at 74 this year.

I think Dee will be able to give him all he wants.
