Last years team but thought I put it here as sort of an orphan posting that didn't fit anywhere.

Though Hannah comes from a big German ancestry area of Wisconsin, Belanger is a Normandy, Fench surname. "Bel" means beautiful in French.

In January 2023, the NCAA allowed teams to increase the number of assistants to 5 from 3, with the two extra assistants not allowed to recruit off campus. This really didn't change much because non-coaching staff members were already allowed to do some skill instruction.

As of today, ISU promoted Emily Hatfield and Rob Jenkins to those assistant positions.

(Note: I don't think the tweet intended to imply they would be doing any off-campus recruiting, although I suppose they might be able to participate in recruiting road-trips as long as they don't do any actual recruiting on them.)

Did Shellie Mosman Haluska help out? Assuming they still live in or around Carroll.

Not sure about the helping out part but yep she's still in Carroll and doing very well.

I didn't see Emily in the Carroll camp pictures or the Ames farmers market pictures. Is there something to be concerned about?

Rewatching highlights of our transfers. Last night I watched videos of Hare and Hansford. Really elite players and elite shooters. Hare led the Big East in three pointers made and was honorable mention all conference. Really good handles too. She is really good. I’d be surprised if she is not a starter day one.

Hansford’s stats are a little deceiving. I’m guessing she had an injury mid season and that affected her minutes. It looks like she had a wrap on her shoulder and a face mask in a few highlights. In the sweet Sixteen against ND she played 25 minutes and scored 8 points. Against South Carolina in the Elite Eight she played 27 minutes and scored 12 points. She played starter quality minutes. Most of her shots came from three during the season, but I was impressed by her athleticism and length. Smooth looking lefty shot. It will be interesting to see how Bill uses Hansford. She was a better all around player than I expected.

What a season this could be. I’m going to try and what videos of the two other transfers later today.

I watched highlights of Harris tonight. She is another elite three point shooter. Almost all her highlights were behind the three point line with makes sense given that 5 of her 7 shot attempts per game came from 3. She had some good rebounding games pulling down 6 or 7 rebounds multiple times. Her minutes tailed off at the end of the year, not sure why. I think the question with both Harris and Hansford is who can they guard on defense and can they rebound. Both are really good shooters, what else can they bring to the team.

I tried to watch highlights of Taulelei, but there was not much to find. UMass didn’t appear to post much. What I did see, it looked like she was a hustler and wasn’t afraid to face the basket and drive. She was a great find given our roster. I hope she or Williams can give us some quality post minutes.

Knowing what we have coming back and watching what these transfers can do really makes one think the sky’s the limit. Minutes will have to be earned. Bill will have a unique problem this year with all this depth.
