Xavier's escape last night was pretty crazy. Less than 2 minutes left, down 10-9, had it 4th and 37 from their own 10. They convert and go on to score for the W. Unreal.Have to beat Xavier in Alleman first.

Yeah. The 90's seemed like it was either IC, ICW or Bettendorf every year.

Agree, but if you give up a 1st down conversion on 4th and 27, you deserve the L.It was 4th and 27, they had to get to the 37. So slightly less daunting a task. Insane how wide open that guy was. What a sickening way to lose a playoff game.

Good point. People would be upset either way they called it, anyway.I don't think either one could see all aspects (catch/no catch, in/out) from their respective angles. I'd rather they confab instead of both making "snap decisions" and signaling two different outcomes.
No kidding. Add Ankeny and Valley in there too. The DSM Metro has been dominate for close to 20 years now. Bettendorf maybe was the last eastern team to win it? I could be wrong.
Xavier is historically not that great on the road in the playoffs. They’ve also been extraordinarily fortunate in three or four of their wins this year - there’s no quantifying luck.No problem, as it is a long ride from Cedar Rapids to the vast metropolis of Alleman.
both played for Randy, too. Hence why ACGC runs the offense they do.. because it was a staple of Randy’s.If anyone is following Class A, next week AC/GC takes on Madrid. Both teams are 10-0, both Head Coaches played together for Madrid in the late 2000's, are good friends, and both come from the coaching tree of HOF coach Randy Hinkle both played on State Championship games (both teams got 2nd), and I believe that both played for National Championships in college.
Madrid Head Coach Brock Hinkle is Randy's son and AC/GC Head Coach Cody Mathewson and AC/GC Assistant Coach, Kurt Mathewson is Cody's father and was one of Randy's Assistant Coaches.
THAT is why Friday Night Lights in Iowa is such a great time of year.
No Brock doesn't. Randy ran the Wishbone and I believe AC/GC does as well. It will be an interesting game next week.both played for Randy, too. Hence why ACGC runs the offense they do.. because it was a staple of Randy’s.
Brock doesn’t run much of what his dad used to.
Did you mean 8 man?No Brock doesn't. Randy ran the Wishbone and I believe AC/GC does as well. It will be an interesting game next week.
Also, Lenox is in the playoff for 7 man football. Their Head Coach is another Randy Hinkle player/disciple.
Coach Hinkle has to be smiling down today.
Madrid is another one. I mentioned Newton, at one time, being dominant in “large class”. Newton is not even close to what it once was. They even dropped a class or two.If anyone is following Class A, next week AC/GC takes on Madrid. Linn mar I had forgotten about. Holy crap, newton was runner up several times. SC heelan was another. Now they are 3A, two classes down.
I wonder if the eastern schools regressed or if the metro schools just greatly surpassed them in talent/money. Iowa City has really grown over the last 30yrs, probably on par with DSM metro percentage-wise. Not sure what explains that switch and drop-offAnd the one 90s non-eastern Iowa 4A champ, Ankeny, beat City High in the finals in '97.
Somehow I remember City High went 6-3 which was unheard of for them, and went on a tear in November.
