Maybe they should have left out the Big Ten. It's ok to do that you know? That conference has been **** in basketball for years. Don't call it the Champions Classic when one of those team's overall National Championship count is the complete outlier. Sorry, then just rename it to something else.
Dude I get it, anytime you see the words “big ten” you see red and just think of the worst thing possible. It’s ok. The big ten can’t hurt you, they aren’t hiding under your bed.

Also the entire concept of leaving out the big ten is something that would never happen, broadcasting college sports is a business after all. Just like the amount of people on here that hate watch Iowa, it’s all about the ratings.

Dude I know it's about ratings. No ****. And yes the Big Ten is only what it is because of stupid ratings because the product on the court has sucked for 15 years or more. From a competition standpoint (since this is what this type of event should be about but yay almighty dollar like everything else in life), no Big Ten team should be anywhere near this event. UConn not being the fourth team is a joke at this point.

And yes I hate the Big Ten because it's laughable they get this giant love fest all because of ratings. They suck and underachieve in every sport that matters aside from Ohio State in football.

My man the records of the event say otherwise, Kansas and Duke are 7-5 and Kentucky and MSU are 5-7, every single team has beaten the other like I mentioned so no one team is dominating and no one team is a doormat. I get your point and if this was something where the 4 teams were reevaluated every year I would agree that UConn should be in, but it’s not, it was an agreement with ESPN and these 4 teams. In 2026 when the agreement is done we will see what happens.

And I get it @FriendlySpartan you are an MSU fan, and I like having you around. But your blind homerism is showing in this one, sorry. We all do it, but it's ok to admit MSU shouldn't be part of a Champions Classic when they have two titles only one other title game appearance.

Kentucky: 8 titles, 4 runner ups, 17 Final Fours
Duke: 5 titles, 6 runner ups, 17 Final Fours
Kansas: 4 titles, 6 runner ups, 16 Final Fours (And I flipping hate KU more than Michigan State btw)
Michigan State: 2 titles, 1 runner up, 10 Final Fours

UConn: 5 titles (all since 1999), 6 Final Fours
UCLA: 11 titles, 2 runner ups, 19 Final Fours.
North Carolina: 6 titles, 6 runner ups, 21 Final Fours

There is one school that clearly sticks out as not being in this club.

I don't care what the records are in the event. Nowhere did I say Michigan State it terrible at basketball, and of course I would expect these teams to be fairly even throughout this event record wise. Program history is what this is about, or at least, that's how it was pitched back when ESPN created it. But it's called the Champions Classic, and they don't fit the profile of the other schools I just listed. And it isn't even close.

Anyway, good conversation. I am out as I have more pressing things to get to. Just had to toss in my yearly jab at this event and the Big Ten.

Cool, now do those stats for the last 30 years. Half of Kentucky’s titles are before 1960 10/11 of UCLA’s championships are before 1976.

I get what you are saying but you’re counting events from forever ago for an event that’s taking place now. No one is counting Minnesota’s 6 football championships before 1960 and considering them a top ten program. Same rules apply for basketball.

how good is Texas Tech supposed to be? They are down at home to San Jose State and only have 38 points total with 7:00 to play

Their new coach played the slowest tempo in the country at North Texas last year. They want to play in the 50s. He's got a small rebuild but they should be okay.
I don't see toussaint fitting in well in that system offensively but he was rare player for Fran in that he played defense.

Knowing their coach I'm guessing they're going to be a bit like us the last couple years. Not going to have an offense to just blow teams out all over the place but enough defense that they will make it really hard to beat them

Sure but not when anyone was actually alive. Most of Kentucky’s were from when black people weren’t even allowed to play and UCLAs last championship is close to 30 years ago. UCLA was also not regularly putting out good teams when it was created. There is also no way they were leaving out the big ten in any event like that.

#21 Villanova losing to Penn would be quite a upset if the score holds up late in the 2nd half. Why is Villanova even in the top 25 after a bad year by their standards is mind boggling?
