Appears new, Jacob Ellis, linebacker out of Iowa Western
“He was a big part of our defensive success in the spring and fall,” Strohmeier said. “That’s earned him two All-American awards and he’s a 4.0 student and just does things the right way on and off the field. …
Ellis, while uncommitted, is pondering some NCAA Division I offers, including but not limited to Florida International and Iowa State. He has visits scheduled to both schools …

The article goes on to say that his father, Jeff Ellis, played tight end at Ohio State from 1987-1991, and for the Cleveland Browns.

And for you real old-timers, haha, his grandfather, Jimmy Ellis, won the world heavyweight title against Jerry Quarry in 1968, and held it until 1970, when he was defeated by Joe Frazier.

Whoa! I remember Jimmy Ellis well! Won the title after Ali was forced to vacate. Not quite on Ali's level but an excellent fighter.

Well, he was 1-1 against Ali as an amateur.
Ellis got into boxing as a teenager after watching a friend box a fellow Louisville youngster Muhammad Ali (then known as Cassius Clay) on a local amateur boxing television show ... Ellis won 59 of 66 amateur bouts and was a Golden Gloves champion. He boxed Ali twice as an amateur, with Ali winning the first bout and Ellis winning the second. ...

Easton Eledge, I believe wasn’t ranked, it was a good run, finished 8th at the state wrestling tournament last year.

At the recent Western Iowa Conference tournament, with three heavyweights in the state rankings, but not him, he finished 2nd. He lost in the finals to Rex Johnsen from Logan-Magnolia, who was state runner up last year and will play football at Wyoming. Johnsen, listed at 6’6”, 281, also had interest from Iowa State.

Eledge was listed at 6'3 300 on varsity bound. Probably could of been bigger/stronger looking at his frame but likely had to walk that fine line to be able to get back to 285 to wrestle.

Wondered why a kid like that wasn't at Lewis Central. Wrestling would be an obvious answer.

You are probably right on the weight. If you look at his finals match with Johnsen here at about 1:40:00, it’s hard to tell on a phone, but it looks like he is carrying some excess fat.

Doesn’t matter whether it is fat or muscle though, in having to get back to 285 (or not wrestle).

Underwood had a good football team this year. Nearly all of their games weren’t even close. Had they not lost in the playoffs, it seemed they might well win the championship.

Starting to feel better about R Mason Thomas if it has been this long and he has not made any decision to switch yet.. would be a game changer for our pass rush.

Oklahoma seems like the one we have to beat.

It’s huge too because there’s a decent chance him and Moten are a package deal. We already have a good group of DT’s, but landing Moten could make it easier to switch Deyo to OL.
Yes and no on Deyo - we still have Dominique Orange. Hes a huge DT centerpiece for us.

I'm wondering if Deyo can play center or guard in September? If he's the highest rated Iowa lineman we have had, he may be that good.
