Great time as usual. Full house. Coaches brought nearly the entire staff, not just coaches themselves. I think they really enjoy it as they were chatty even during the interviews.
C-Dubs interviewed Campbell, Heacock, Manning, and Golesh on the staircase landing. It was rather royal (or maybe priestly is the better term). Highlights included jabs about Campbell finally listening to Chris's dad and making more throws to tight ends last year after Manning left. Lowlights included Chris talking about CF nutcups! Seriously, not really a lowlight, as it was part of Chris getting Campbell to talk about the depths of change he has brought to the program and even to the disposition of the fans.
Coaches hung around for quite a while to talk and take photos. Don't want to tell you more about what was said because it was an off-the-record event, but these guys are fans themselves and speak quite candidly. You have to be there (as everyone's experience is different because of the informal, openness of the event. I do whatever I can to keep my schedule clear for this event.
What a great, unique time! I don't know of another fanbase, even at a smaller school, that has this sort of access to the coaches. It is hard to believe that this was the 15th football recruitment party. Major kudos to C-Dubs for making it happen originally and keeping it going!
Other notes:
Free raffles for Love Your Melon hats, good tickets to the Big 12 men's basketball tournament, and football season tickets.
There were tables of CF-inspired clothing and Love Your Melon hats for sale.
Always fun to interact in person with the CF celebrities (Chris, Jared, Jackie, Rob, Brent). Even Charter made a cameo. Don't know if Fitz was there.
It was fitting that the CF event was followed by watching a Jazz/Nuggets game at the bar.
Menu cards offered much of what was on the regular Whiskey River menu. Much better than the limited buffet last year.
Love the way that Whiskey River has stepped up to support the Cyclones!
